Public Health can be defined as the science and art of preventing disease and looking after the health-related welfare of the citizens. Basically, it is a preventive measure, not a curative process. Institutions like World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF they also wholeheartedly participate in the different public health programs. For example, the effects of both direct and indirect smoking are equally bad (Tunanidas, 2007). There are talks for banning smoking in public places to control passive smoking, and in a lot of cases, this ban is successfully imposed. In the 21st Century, some diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans have caused a lot of panics. These diseases are called Zoonotic diseases, and they are also very important. Due to the development of Science, Medical Care has been improved simultaneously. The Public Health Professionals, ranging from doctors the nurses, even the chemist shop owners, are now well trained to deal with different diseases. The introduction of modern equipment in medical care calls for a specialized group of professionals to handle and operate complex health care machines for the treatment of different diseases. The American Public Health Association (APHA) is a professional organization for public health professionals in the United States. The Association defines itself as being the oldest and most diverse organization of public health professionals in the world. These aspects generally help to improve public health and also shorten the gap between the doctor and the patient indirectly (Schneider, 2006).
However, today, there is a wide range of holistic healing available. Nobody can refer to a new healing system like osteopathic principles’ holistic approach simply as another unusual, unorthodox o,r unconventional form of treatment. This is because each day more and more people are opening themselves to this form of therapy and more and more medical professionals are taking interest in this approach at the same time. There are quite a number of holistic healing schools present alone in the United States today and they are providing all the help possible to the students of medicines interested in this technique. One of the plus points of this system is that this system results in aery few side effects and the chance of relapsing of ailments are often regarded as negligible. (Wardell & Engebretson, 2001) Furthermore, there is a huge amount of faith associated with this form of healing and thus it is obvious that osteopathic principles’ holistic approach should be treated as an alternate form of medication. Nevertheless, the actual effectiveness of this form of medication is still under supervision and should not be completely depended upon in the context of public health.
Obviously, when consumers seek healthcare, they are putting their health and perhaps their lives in the hands of the healthcare providers; therefore, it is necessary to assure the quality of these agencies. Logically, the best measures of quality should be a combination of both the consumer and the clinical measures. By reviewing consumer ratings and by talking to others who have used a particular provider, consumers can determine if particular healthcare professionals will not only address their medical needs but also their emotional needs as patients. However, it is equally as important to examine the ratings provided by the experts in clinical measurement as these examine aspects of medical care that are unfamiliar to the layperson. By familiarizing themselves with both methods, consumers are more likely to receive quality care. Finally, the informed consumer can access the National Health Information Center of the Department of Health and Human Services to view the ratings of healthcare providers and organizations. Not only does this agency give consumers the ability to view consumer and clinical measurements, but also the opportunity to rate their own providers. Thus, a formulation of the theory of agency in a hospital setting should be implemented in the context of elasticity principles. Only then a consistent result would come out that would ultimately help the consumer in the end. (Knupp & Warren, 2009)
However, it should be noted tthe Climate change, due to pollution, has a direct effect on public health. In the 21st century, Pollution control and preservation of Nature are also a very important part of public health. Water pollution causes approximately 14,000 deaths per day. Studies have estimated that the number of people killed annually in the US could be over 50,000 (Tunanidas, 2007). Nuclear testing has significantly raised the levels of background radiation. All these challenges look grimmer in the 21st century. Not only medical care personals but also the wholehearted participation of all the people only can make this situation look brighter. In the past, many diseases affected the humankind and humankind has successfully controlled these diseases. So it can be easily said that again mankind will control this health hazards and for this all forms of helps and medication is needed in the parameters of public health and osteopathic principles’ holistic approach could be treated as an alternate form of medication.
