Quality management in healthcare is essential to ensure patient safety and the effectiveness of care provision. The present course was helpful for understanding the importance of measuring and controlling the quality of provided services and described various methods that help to achieve that. The primary goals of quality management in healthcare include at least six vital points. First, quality management promotes patient safety by reducing the possibility of harmful practices (Aggarwal, 2019). Second, it aims at improving effectiveness by ensuring that only necessary procedures are performed (Aggarwal, 2019). Third, quality management supports patient-centered care, which implies that patient preferences are considered in the decision-making process. Fourth, timeliness is crucial for quality management that helps maximize the benefits for patients by reducing delays (Aggarwal, 2019). Fifth, quality management improves efficiency by reducing wastes (Aggarwal, 2019). Finally, it promotes equitable care to patients regardless of their gender, age, social status, and cultural background.
The application of the goals of quality management is crucial for my future career. I plan to develop my career as a healthcare manager. Thus, when managing teams of healthcare professionals, the goals of quality management will be helpful for defining the variables, I would need to measure and control. After measuring the six aspects of healthcare quality, I will utilize the best practices, such as the implementation of statistical process control and information management systems, to ensure the best outcomes. Finally, the achievements of the six goals will serve as indicators of success in quality improvement. In summary, the present course was helpful by providing the opportunity to evaluate quality in healthcare organizations, which I will use in my future career.
