The use of computers and digital information has led to various impacts in life. First, due to the innovation and digitization of processes, there has been improved livelihood since most of the resources can be obtained from the internet. Secondly, depending on computer programmed processes leads to replacement of human workforce hence making people unemployed. The other impact is the health problems that come alongside use of computers. Lastly, information system leads to laxity that may lead to lower levels of cognitive functioning. This paper elaborates on the quality of life impacts due to computers and information systems adoption in human life.
Improved livelihood is evident through quick access to the internet when someone needs to solve a given problem. Nowadays, websites can enable one to buy or order products at their convenience (Österle 33). Information system may make one lazy because they can access data easily from the internet. That makes people have low cognitive functioning, which may lead to poor ways of solving problems since they are not critical. The laxity that comes from frequent reliance on already sought solutions may affect life where affected individuals cannot leverage on important matters in life. (Österle 45). Transhumanism has led to many cases of robotic objects in manufacturing industries.
Therefore, the replacement of people by machines has led to unemployment, hence economic fall to the affected groups. When people lose jobs, they will turn to dangerous activities such as crime, which would negatively change the way of living. Lastly, computer usage has led to health concerns as some computer-centric machines such as laptops may emit electromagnetic radiations, which may lead to cancerous diseases.
The effects have impacted personal life in many ways due to the frequent use of computers. Due to transhumanism, products are manufactured at a costly price that makes items expensive in the market. Second, due to the perception that computer ownership and usage are prestigious, many people have been discriminated against based on computer illiteracy in society. Ethics would argue that the quality of life affected by the computer processes boosts the innovation and digitalization of the system, enabling massive production of units. People are convinced that globalization should be at the current level to sustain the world’s large population.
