Introduction
Reflecting on my thirteen-week experience working in the Florida Supervisor of Elections office (FSE), I feel incredibly grateful and enlightened. This experience has given me a personal look at the changing terrain of Florida’s electoral process and deepened my grasp of the complicated workings of election administration.
Reflection
My contacts with the organization have always been marked by professionalism, passion, and a steadfast commitment to upholding the integrity of our democratic values. Collaborating with enthusiastic people who embody the principles of democracy has been both motivating and instructive. I have participated in various activities and taken on duties throughout my internship, which have aided my development and deepened my understanding of the complex election administration process. I have learned much about the difficulties and responsibilities of ensuring our electoral system runs smoothly, from voter registration to election planning and logistics.
I have seen the FSE office’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the voting process. Stricter certification procedures for software and hardware, along with well-thought-out logistical plans, have made the voting process run more smoothly and effectively. Additionally, the focus on security procedures highlights the dedication to maintaining the integrity of election results. It reflects the significance the Jackson County Elections Office (JCE) places on security (Holovach et al., 2019). Nonetheless, I have seen that the FSE office faces difficulties comparable to those of the JCE Office. Problems such as exposed personal data and staffing shortages are severe risks to the organization’s ability to run efficiently. Furthermore, managing budgetary restrictions and legal barriers creates ongoing difficulties that call for preventive action to mitigate them.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my internship at the FSE office has been enlightening and life-changing. I now have a stronger academic understanding, practical skills, and a clearer sense of how vital election administration is to maintaining the democratic process. Using my contacts with committed professionals and participation in various activities and projects, I have acquired essential knowledge about the intricacies and obligations involved in maintaining the credibility of our democratic process. I have a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to helping manage our election procedures effectively as I start this next chapter of my life.
