Introduction
Nursing research aims to answer questions about nursing practice. There is also research utilization and evidence-based practice that determines the best practices based on the research conducted. The named research kinds help to improve nursing practice by discovering and providing the most effective decisions.
The purpose of the research is to validate an existing knowledge or to discover a new one. The evidence-based practise aims to identify the best practice available to conduct patients-care decisions. Research is a systematic method of “exploring, describing, explaining, relating, or establishing the existence of a phenomenon”. (De Laune, p. 48). Research can also discover the factors that cause a phenomenon or its change and how it influences other phenomena. Findings on gender-based differences in pain response that predicts how medications can help patients is an example of a research.
Main Objectives
Research utilization is the use of the research findings with a purpose to improve patient’s care. There are three levels of research utilization: instrumental, conceptual, and symbolic. Instrumental is gained from research and used to change the practice. Conceptual is used for a better understanding of the particular issue in nursing. Symbolic utilization focuses on the decision-makers and aims to change their mindset through evidence. One of the examples of research utilization relates to the cellular and mechanical immunology as the content is difficult to assimilate. (Sika-Paotonu 2018). Due to the difficulty, researchers indicated a need to integrated clinically immunological course with related research examples.
Evidence-based practise supports decision making in healthcare. The purpose of the evidence-based practice is to eliminate worse practices, support the best ones and to standardize clinician’s practices. Yinger (2017) discovers music therapy as an effective evidence-based practice due to the clinical evidence-based use of musical interventions.
Conclusion
The main difference between those practices is that research needs to be conducted, and research utilization and evidence-based practice use data and pieces of evidence based on the study. All of the methods contribute to the development of the best practices among nurses for the most effective use of knowledge.
