Introduction
Anti-LBGTQ+ discrimination, bullying, and violence are common problems in today’s society despite all efforts to overcome these issues. Resolving existing problems should involve an integrated approach involving all possible aspects related to the social sciences. The applied and natural sciences can significantly impact learning how to deal with discrimination and humiliation. Determining possible ways to solve the physical and material aspects using the approaches of natural and applied sciences.
Applying the Scientific Lens to LGBTQ+ Issues
Using the prism of natural and applied sciences, it is possible to describe this topic using a scientific approach to provide a systematic basis for studying and analyzing the problems of LGBTQ+ groups. They experience significant societal pressure and may be subject to discrimination and other forms of humiliation because of their views (Meyer et al., 2022). For this, an important step is formulating a relevant research question, which will be the main task in conducting the study. One of these goals is to determine the frequency of discrimination cases in educational or other public institutions (SNHU, n. d.). At the same time, a side task may be to find out the psychological effects on LGBTQ+ people when they are discriminated against and treated unethically.
Methods for Data Collection and Analysis
The scientific method can be used in such a way as to facilitate the collection of the necessary information and provide the tools to do so. Examples of these are sociological surveys, experiments, and interviews, which should be a significant part of the study’s design to provide sufficient objectivity. To do this, the collected empirical data should be analyzed and studied in order to identify the main factors of discrimination and violence against members of the LGBTQ+ community (Conine et al., 2022).
Understanding Causal Relationships and Impacts
Establishing causal relationships and making correlations is also important in applying the scientific method in order to ascertain the causes of unethical treatment. In this way, the scientific method can be used through the lens of the natural and applied sciences to explore the relationship between discrimination and oppression of LGBTQ+ people and their mental health.
The connection of the study of this topic with the physical and material world through the natural and applied sciences lens can be seen in the serious consequences of discrimination. For example, LGBTQ+ individuals who are subjected to humiliation and oppression may experience severe psycho-emotional stress. In turn, such a depressed state can affect their effectiveness at work or in social activities, which affects the material well-being of people. In addition, an important factor is the deterioration of health and mental well-being, which leads to the risk of developing many cardiovascular diseases, mental disorders, and a general weakening of the body (Meyer et al., 2022). All this is a factor accompanying the decrease in the material well-being of both individuals and the public as a whole.
Challenges of Objectivity in Scientific Research
Problems of objectivity can also arise when studying this topic, as researchers must consider possible prejudices and stereotypes and be aware of their consequences. Potential subconscious biases must be considered in detail to avoid them during the study’s conclusions with incorrect results (Walia et al., 2019). Social and cultural norms can have a significant impact on how people see LGBTQ+ community issues and how they can help resolve them. Scientists should be aware of the possible errors associated with objectivity so that they can make appropriate adjustments during the study.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it should be noted that the study of the identified problem through the prism of natural and applied sciences will highlight the existing problems regarding violence, bullying, and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people. Studying these issues using the scientific method can improve the efficiency of gathering information and analyzing empirical data to draw correlations and relationships. The influence of these factors on the material and physical world is quite significant since it does not allow people to work and live fully. Thus, objective scientific intervention without prejudice can highlight the aspects that most affect people in the context of oppression and discrimination.
