Skills for a Human Resources Director Position

As my desired career field is Human Resources (HR) management, I am highly interested in becoming a director of human resources. This position entails planning, developing, and implementing HR initiatives in a given company, promoting the achievement of personal and team goals by the employees (Career Builder, n.d.). HR directors are responsible for collecting and managing the workers’ data in order to maintain positive interpersonal relationships and ensure that each individual is provided with the resources necessary for professional growth. In addition, it is expected that the HR director will devise procedures for hiring, terminating, and promoting employees (Career Builder, n.d.). Thus, the HR director plays a crucial role in a company’s performance and must be highly qualified to fulfill these duties.

The essential professional skills that I have obtained through my general education courses are ethical reasoning, written communication, oral communication, information literacy, and critical thinking. Ethical reasoning is essential for making ethical decisions and ensuring that the workplace environment adheres to the code of ethics. After that, a productive HR director should possess the mastery of written communication, clearly expressing their ideas and innovations in emails, reports, and other papers (Obedgiu, 2017). On the other hand, oral communication is required to sustain positive interactions with the team members and efficiently address their concerns during conversations. Furthermore, information literacy is vital for an individual occupying this position, as introducing relevant HR strategies requires research and evaluation of potential practices (Obedgiu, 2017). Finally, critical thinking must be demonstrated by the HR director, who is expected to distinguish between possibly beneficial and non-relevant HR methods excellently.

The implementation of ethical reasoning is a perfect example of how the acquired knowledge has shaped my personal development. After obtaining ethical reasoning skills, I was able to critically evaluate my decisions and their moral impact on other individuals. Additionally, oral communication competency has helped me improve my relationships with my colleagues. In the future, I plan to utilize the gained knowledge to create occupations that would benefit the members of my community and help them improve their professional status.
