Strategic Plans
It is crucial to mention that a strategic, tactical, and operational plan differ in specificity and management. Accordingly, the strategic plan includes the development of the general strategy of the organization and distributing funds at lower levels to implement it (Clack & Woeppel, 2018). Moreover, strategic goals are set at the senior leadership level, including a plan and strategies for implementing them at lower levels.
One of the most typical instances of strategic plans is a coordinated strategy, which includes targets and goals for all team members to achieve (Clack & Woeppel, 2018). Meanwhile, operational planning takes place at a lower level than strategic planning, and its primary goal is to make the strategic plan more specific. In other words, operational planning describes the stages and conditions and provides recommendations for implementing the strategic plan.
Operational Plans
An operational plan is usually created by people who will directly implement it in the organization. An example of an operational plan is a program to increase revenue over a specific time (Thomas & Winter, 2020). In contrast to the strategic plan, the operational plan may involve various departments to perform standard functions.
Tactical Plans
Furthermore, a tactical plan is a detailed description of the tactics for implementing the strategic plan. It includes short-term goals, as opposed to strategic and operational plans. Compared to strategic planning, which deals with the entire organization and operations as a connection between the strategic and tactical, the tactical plan deals with a single department or group of people (Martin, 2019).
Moreover, the individuals who directly create it are responsible for implementing the tactical plan. For example, adapting the organization’s code of honor in the finance office is a tactical plan that demands the finance department execute it (Thomas & Winter, 2020). However, the successful implementation of tactical plans through operating plans enables the company to execute the strategic plan effectively.
