Introduction
The American Revolution is one of the most critical events in the history of the United States. It resulted in the thirteen Great Britain’s colonies regaining sovereignty and claiming their independence. However, before speaking about the consequences of the American Revolution, it is crucial to learn what led to the American colonists’ rebellion. The presented video will help students understand the causes of the American Revolution better.
Main body
Major historical events usually have complicated backgrounds, being caused by several factors combined. According to the presented video, the events that led to the American Revolution were motivated by two age-old factors – money and respect (Mr. C’s Classroom, 2014). In the 1760s, the British governments had to pay for the troops that fought in the French and Indian War. So, they decided to tax the American colonies to do that. Taxations included the Sugar Act of 1764, the Stamp act of 1765, the Townshend Acts of 1767, and the Tea Act of 1773, each rejected by the American colonists.
The British were infuriated by the colonists’ frivolity and decided to punish them with a series of laws that the colonists called Intolerable Acts. These included the Quartering Act induced them to provide British soldiers with food and bedding. The Intolerable Acts were a way for the British government to reclaim their power over the American colonies and make them submit to their orders. However, Americans had had enough and were not willing to obey anymore. Thus, the Intolerable Acts sparked the fire of rebellion in American people.
Conclusion
To sum up, the American Revolution was an essential step for the country to finally claim its freedom and become what it is today. The students need first to understand why the colonists decided to rebel and then analyze the Revolution itself and its consequences. The video briefly summarizes the causes and gives explanations to each of them for the students to easily envision the course of events and logically analyze them for further studying.
