The ANA Code of Ethics Overview

The ANA Code of Ethics is intended to guide nurses’ behavior in situations related to their work. In particular, it teaches the practice of independent creative making of decisions, a humanistic view of the patient, and protecting their rights. At the same time, using the ANA Code of Ethics in their work, the nurses are committed to continuous learning in connection with constantly changing technologies and conditions.

Provision 1 of the ANA Code of Ethics can be used by bedside nurses, home care nurses, and student nurses by providing care inextricably with compassion and respect for everyone. Applying Provision 2, the nurses should provide patients with the opportunity to integrate into the treatment-specific practices used in their nation or family (Last name, 2020). They can employ Provision 3 by conserving the confidentiality of all data about the patient. Using Provision 4, the nurses can consult with more qualified colleagues. Whereas, following Provision 5, in the process of becoming a professional, they learn the values of activity, integrating with personal.

The nurses can use Provision 6 by contributing to the professional environment through a relentless effort to care, empathize, and respect. Understanding Provision 7 can be employed in serving as role models in professional practice (Last name, 2020). Simultaneously, the application of Provision 8 consists of creating awareness of broader health issues, such as pollution and hunger. Finally, Provision 9 can be used by participating in associations, thereby shaping health policies, which can solve the issues previously listed.

To conclude, ANA can help other nurses and me by teaching the practice of independent creative making of decisions, considering new technologies of care, and a humanistic view of the patient. The specific code that stuck in my mind is Provision 5 because I consider lifelong learning and self-development essential. This code influences me by giving an understanding that qualified and compassionate care is a critical tool of a nurse.
