The Customs of Americans and Norwegians: Comparison

Comparing the customs of Americans and Norwegians, it is necessary to note a fashionable similarity feature, which consists of respectful addresses. In both countries, prefixes to the person’s surname are used, helping to address more formally. However, it is worth noting another fact related to the fact that Norwegians most often turn to “you”, which is also a similar custom. One important feature in Norway is the desire of people to live in simple houses of their own far from the city. This tradition can be compared with the fact that many Americans also prefer their own housing.

It should be understood that in the cultural tradition of the United States, the appearance of a new family member is an important event not only for parents but also for others. This is evidenced by various traditional birthday celebrations, accompanied by various support for the expectant mother and child. The departure of a loved one from life is also perceived quite sensitively. Various customs are designed to remember good moments from the life of a deceased person.

Talking about the issue of abortion of a fetus that has been found to have a genetic disease, I am against it. The fact is that this is a rather difficult step and a choice that parents need to make. In this situation, it is also necessary to indicate the fact of the financial situation of the family. Raising a child with genetic defects is a relatively expensive and time-consuming process that requires a lot of effort. Considering WHO data, it can be found that infant mortality is caused by many different factors, including inadequate care (World Health Organization, 2020). If parents do not have sufficient financial resources, they will not be able to provide the necessary treatment. Unfortunately, this issue cannot be avoided without considering the general problem of poverty. It should be noted that many poor people in the United States die young (Rodriguez & Capotescu, 2018). This factor can be attributed to the fact that it is much more difficult for children with genetic diseases. Thus, this is a rather complex moral and ethical issue. However, it is essential to understand that giving the opportunity to live is an important decision. The problems mentioned above should be consistently solved by the state, allowing parents to reduce the burden of raising children.
