“The Neighbor’s Window”: Film Review

All people at a certain moment doubt their own choice and think how their life would have developed in a different situation or layout. The characters of the movie “The Neighbor’s Window” Alli and her husband Jacob, watching the life of their neighbors, begin to remember their youth and regret their existing life. However, in the final part of the movie, the situation turns out to be not at all what it seemed at first. The film is authentic and perfectly conveys the dramatic atmosphere.

Previously, middle-aged women Alli, played by Maria Dizzia, and her husband Jacob, played by Greg Keller, led another lifestyle with more joy and diversity. Currently, they have children who do not allow them to have a different way of life, which changes the whole situation. The events of the film take place in modern New York. A young couple moves to the flat opposite the street, they have fun and lead a carefree lifestyle which can be easily seen through the windows.

From that moment on, their life becomes a constant reminder for Alli of the difference in her own life, as her house is constantly filled with noise and mess. However, envious of the neighbors’ lives, at the end of the film, Allie learns that they, on the contrary, looked at her family and dreamed of having children, and the beautiful story of a young couple ended with a serious illness of the husband. The film is a great representation of painful nostalgia for youth and the depressing monotony of everyday life.

The movie takes place in New York, but most of the film is limited to the apartment of the main characters and the couple living opposite them. This once again emphasizes the monotony of the life of the main character, who spends most of her time exclusively at home. The atmosphere is perfectly conveyed through the script and the emotionality of the actors, who seem to personally experience the events of the movie being depressed and considering the life of a young couple on the opposite side of the street much more exciting. In addition, even when Alli meets a girl from a couple living opposite, she, experiencing sadness and loss, still admits to the enthusiasm with which she and her husband watched the children and their pastime.

The film ends with Alli staying at home and finally being glad to see her husband and children as she finally realizes their value. Further, this scene is also shown from the perspective of a neighbor’s girl, who is observing the family. The drama and vitality of what is happening in the film is conveyed since many can project it onto their own lives.

In conclusion, I would give the film 5 out of 5 possible points of assessment, since in just 20 minutes the problems of the life of modern society are conveyed. The film once again reminds us that people do not know how to rejoice at what they have. I would recommend everyone to watch this film in order to understand and start enjoying what we have at the moment, and not compare ourselves with others. Perhaps those whose life we dream of, on the contrary, dream of living like us. I admit that the film is more intended for a mature and conscious audience due to the presence of deep meaning and adult scenes. Each viewer, even if he has not had such an experience in his own life, becomes completely immersed in the atmosphere through the picture, the acting, and the plot.
