In the 19th century, the US had a big vision about the world’s politics and actively sent its troops to the lands it thought needed to change. Manifest Destiny was a broadly held American colonialist social faith, which suggested that American borders were bound to grow across North America. It is responsible to a certain extent for the outbreak of war between Mexico and the US.
According to Manifest, America was ought to save the globe from enslavers and redeem it. As a result, the US government began buying states from Mexico one by one and expanded on the south. The American-Mexican relationship started to get very tense and competitive. The final straw before the conflict between the countries was in 1945. President Polk’s intention to buy Texas recently had gained independence from Mexico. The Mexican government did not agree to conduct any negotiations and warned the US about the war in case of persistence.
Congress, with the initiation of Polk, declared a war against Mexico in 1946. After a couple of years of constant battle, Mexican armies could not handle the American military force. Subsequently, the Mexican government agreed to sign the treaty at the beginning of 1848, after which it received a small compensation from the United States. Nonetheless, since the country’s territory had increased so instantly, it was extremely challenging to govern the new states. The added regions had an ongoing problem with slavery that was difficult to exterminate. Over time, it led to the American Civil War in 1861 that lasted for another four years.
Manifest Destiny is an ideology based on the assumptions of Americans’ uniqueness and predetermination to alter the world. It is mainly a religious belief that was popular among the whole nation. Men would volunteer to go on a battlefield to show their virtuousness. Therefore, this idea was a critical factor that brought to the American-Mexican war. The countries would eventually attempt to attack each other due to the large gap between their moral values. The decision to declare war was not right for the US since the inability to control the large territory resulted in the Civil War.
