Introduction
The general area that is important to study is formulated by questions about the influence of language on the person and on psychological processes. This area is vital under the general aspect, namely second language acquisition (SLA), as it forms the basis for understanding these issues. It includes the reasons why it is necessary to learn a second language and how it affects a person in terms of cognitive development. Moreover, it formulates a consideration of the second language issue from the perspective of today’s international relations, globalization, and economics. Today, a second language is important as the pace of globalization is accelerating and, accordingly, international relations are becoming more widespread. The purpose of the work is to study the impact of SLA on a person, as well as to form methods for conducting an analysis.
Background
The information that is already known in the aspect of the chosen topic, namely SLA influence on the person, is formulated by choice of literature and conducted research in this area. Thus, the theoretical basis selected was the work by Fahriany, in which the author summarizes which role the second language plays in the world today and why it is essential (Fahriany, 2018). Besides, the basic information about this issue lies in the fact that learning a language has a positive effect on the development of brain activity in a person. Moreover, the literature review would help to identify that the hypothesis about the influence of language learning on human activity confirms the model of language psychology.
The critical studying that has been carried out in this matter is formulated by those that have been designated as the theoretical basis in work. These include work by Dr. Fahriany, Second Language Acquisition, in which the author reveals the main points that need to be understood to analyze the current issue (Fahriany, 2018). Furthermore, another critical study that formulates the theoretical basis is the work by Paula Winke and Tineke Brunfaut, The Routledge Handbook of Second Language Acquisition and Language Testing (Winke & Brunfaut, 2020). This research demonstrates the basics of SLA, methodology, and impact on the person and reveals the reasons why it is essential and relevant today.
Among the issues that I found not fully disclosed in these works are the psychological aspect of SLA and the impact on the individual’s success. In other words, I would like to study more about the psychological processes in a person when learning a second language and how it affect the success of an individual. Besides, these questions formulate the aspects that I might like to pursue myself. Moreover, more emphasis will be placed on the impact of SLA on an individual’s aims. In other words, how a second language helps to achieve success in a career or business through its relevance and psychological processes.
Rationale
For a more effective study of the issue, one needs to determine a list of the main questions that need to be answered in the study. In this case, the first main question will be how exactly the learning of a second language affects the cognitive and psychological processes of the individual. Next, it is necessary to find out the extent to which SLA influences the success of an individual in terms of career or business. In this regard, it is also crucial to identify whether the influence is more on psychological or cognitive processes. Finally, one needs to indicate how it is related to the model of the psychology of language. Accordingly, questions about the psychology of language have a connection with the general question raised in the introduction, namely the second language acquisition impact on the individual.
The specific claim which would be evaluated with these questions is formulated by the influence of the SLA on the person. Precisely speaking, the notion according to which SLA has a positive effect on a person both in social and psychological aspects. If the hypothesis is confirmed, it will formulate the veracity of the aspect of the psychology of language about the positive impact of SLA on the person as a whole. Accordingly, if the hypothesis is not confirmed, it will demonstrate the overestimation of the psychology of language in terms of influence on the person. In other words, if the hypothesis is refuted, one may conclude that the information about the need and importance of SLA, both socially and psychologically, is unreliable.
This factor argues the importance and relevance of the current study. If the hypothesis is confirmed, this will formulate the need to strengthen existing knowledge about the subject. In addition, it also argues the relevance of further research in this aspect to reveal new issues in the current area. However, if the hypothesis is disconfirmed, it will articulate the importance of further research to find new connections and influences on the person. It will probably open up another direction in research, which is also essential.
Method and Design
To test the hypothesis, descriptive research was chosen, namely, the search, analysis, and sorting of the collected information, followed by the determination of the conclusion that confirms or refutes the hypothesis. In addition, a review of the literature mentioned above was carried out, which provided the theoretical basis for the study. This method is the best for research because it forms the most efficient way to confirm or disprove the hypothesis. Among the participants that will be tested are the authors of the works selected for analysis and participants in the surveys conducted in these works.
Speaking of the sample which I would choose to test the hypothesis, it would include persons aged from 30 years who were learning two languages. The information that is needed implies the degree of influence of the second language on the career or business of the selected persons. There are no members that I would exclude, as the selected group forms a relevant sample for research. Among the manipulations that can be performed in the study is to change the mean age of the sample to determine the influence of the time period. The stimulus for change is argued by the necessity to supplement existing data with more varied options.
Varying of this factor will help to determine if there is a time period dependence in the hypothesis, which would confirm or disconfirm its universalism. If the hypothesis is found to be significantly dependent on the time period, its universality is violated, which casts doubt on its credibility. The types of factors to be controlled in the study are formulated by the leading indicators, namely the number, age, and percentage of people reporting a positive effect of SLA. The type of effect that confirms or disconfirms the hypothesis will be argued by the rate of dependence on the time period if any. Similarly, the apparent effect for control will be formulated by the degree of reliance on the time period. The stimuli would be presented under the necessity of conducting the research, namely by its relevance. The participant of the experiment is going to answer the control questions.
The analysis of the results will be done by interpreting the provided data obtained during the experiment. First of all, it is necessary to determine the number of people who reported having a positive effect of SLA on their career or business. Next, it is required to determine whether this is due to the influence on psychology and cognitive abilities. Finally, one will have to determine the extent to which the time period influences the hypothesis. Accordingly, the type of results that will confirm or disprove the hypothesis is quantitative.
Conclusion
To conclude, the relevance of this study is argued by the fact that it can find an answer to the question of the influence of SLA on a person. Moreover, it will cover several aspects of a person’s life, namely social activities, and the psychological aspect. Under the social factor, one means the influence of SLA on the success of a person, career, or business. The psychological aspect formulates the presence of the influence of SLA on the psychological and cognitive aspects of the individual, which, in turn, can also have an effect on the state of mind. It is important because it answers the question of what influences the success of a person and one’s thinking, which is crucial for many people. In addition, the results could be profitable after publication because the popularity of the issue determines the sale of a certain resource where the result could be published.
