Christianity, Islam, and Judaism are three substantial religions in the world that, despite their distinct differences, share similar beliefs. The most elementary similarity among the Abrahamic faith is the belief in One God – monotheism. Among other touching points are tracing the origins of Abraham and considering Jerusalem a holy city. Nevertheless, the three religions possess many differences, including the belief in different Holy books and distinct perceptions of Jesus Christ.
According to the Qur’an, Muhammad had specific views toward the prophets and Jesus. He criticized Christians and Jews, mainly with regard to their opinions concerning prophets; however viewed them as allies, expecting their acceptance of his teaching. Muhammad’s views state that he is the last in a line of prophets that reached back through Jesus to Moses. Muhammad’s role as a prophet includes saving the Jews from Christian oppression and playing a positive role in the messianic process.
Islam and Christianity substantially differ in their beliefs and perception of Jesus. Both religions believe that Jesus was born from Virgin Mary, though Muslims assert it was not divine. The missions of Jesus also significantly differ, whereas Christians assume Jesus’s purpose is to reconcile man to God, through his death as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind, and Muslims consider he is sent to proclaim the Injil or gospel. The last difference is that Muslims do not believe that Jesus was crucified the way Christians do.
Considering practical theology Judaism is undoubtfully closer related to Islam; thus, according to the Biblical perception, it is more related to Christianity. Such belief is formed due to the ever-changing nature of religion and its adaptation to modern society. The substantial similarity between the two is the belief that God is not perceived in Trinity, but rather as a unique person. Nevertheless, Judaism is a unique faith that has strong connections to both Islam and Christianity and cannot be substantially compared to any of them.
