Transportation and Logistics in Global Consumerism: Case Studies of Amazon and AliExpress

Introduction

Nowadays, the enhanced trend of consumerism and high demands force quick shipment and logistics to become a routine for global companies and their customers. Meanwhile, transportation methods include rails, roads, air, and maritime shipments. Successful transportation increase client satisfaction, company sales, and product safety. Each company chooses a better transportation process after carefully evaluating its products, market size, locations, and budget to ensure that it contributes to the profits.

Key Considerations for Planning Transportation

Planning for transportation starts with considering the sizes of products and the target market. For example, quick and small shipments can be delivered by cars or trucks, while the more oversized products transported to another continent require air or marine transportation. Moreover, companies with fewer financial assets prefer road delivery as it is less expensive. However, some geographic areas do not have railroads, making it impossible to utilize rail transport. Therefore, the companies should assess their financial and geographic chances of transporting the products.

Examples of Transportation and Logistics Methods in Two Organizations

Amazon

Since leading companies aim to expand their markets, they implement successful logistics methods. For example, an online retailer, Amazon, relies on Amazon logistics and includes two logistics methods. Initially, packages are moved by large trucks to airplanes, which quickly transport them around the globe (Kiger, 2022). When the packages are received at their destinations, they are moved using trailer trucks to the customers.

AliExpress

In contrast, another retailer, AliExpress, offers a broader range of transportation modes based on the customer’s preferences (Ferreira, 2022). Some include air shipping as Amazon’s, while others are shipped by ocean. In this case, the goods are packed in containers and moved by sea routes. Although Amazon’s air shipping is much more expensive than the marine transport provided by AliExpress, both companies demonstrate effective logistic methods.

Conclusion

To conclude, logistics companies guarantee safe and practical packaging, delivery, storage, and distribution of the company’s goods. Meanwhile, transportation modes are responsible for moving the inventory around the globe, increasing the market size, and crossing borders. As leading online retailers, Amazon and AliExpress operate on large geographic segments, utilizing marine, air, and road transportation modes.
