In order to encourage the ethical behavior of employees, eliminate fraudulent manipulations and reduce workers’ dependence on single outcomes, it is necessary to focus on the following strategies. Firstly, setting the staff realizable goals and plans that do not exceed employees’ capabilities is recommended. “One cannot jump over the head,” and the bosses should understand this fact if they want to avoid staff turnover and create a positive atmosphere in the team to maintain practical work. Secondly, additional emphasis should be placed on non-financial incentives. As practice shows, they can be effective motivators, even if it seems that this is not the case. Hence, small gifts, days off, expressions of gratitude for work, covering transportation costs – all these and many other “little things” make employees go to work with a smile, perform their job duties more productively and try to keep their workplace by all possible means.

Steps that an Employee Should Take

There are many ways to interact with unscrupulous colleagues trying to achieve their goals unethically. One should primarily analyze individual behavior and communication manners (Meier, 2020). No one is perfect, and before speaking out against “comrades-in-arms,” one needs to try to look at oneself from the outside. In addition, it is necessary to assess the circumstances and understand who is involved in implementing unfair sales (Meier, 2020). After collecting the required data, one can safely proceed to contact the authorities and clarify the situation. However, it is crucial to remain calm and weigh the pros and cons before dealing with the problem in this way. Perhaps it is worth keeping silent because the expected consequences may be worse. Moreover, one can gently talk to a colleague, stopping the case until it has reached the point of no return. Direct communication with a co-worker is perhaps one of the best ways to achieve the most promising results in eliminating unethical behavior in the workplace. In this case, there is no need to gossip and discuss someone behind one back – this is at least an unattractive and dishonest method.

Interaction with HR

As mentioned earlier, in order to inform HR about an unfavorable situation, it is necessary to thoroughly and exhaustively study the problem. If the issue is obvious, it is required to notify HR about observations and concerns in the future by preparing a speech and collecting the necessary evidence so that certain conclusions and decisions can be made later. Incorrect behavior is the basis for bringing an employee to disciplinary responsibility, supported by various types of evidence, arguments, and other confirmations. This may be a report or explanatory note of the immediate supervisor and acts that recorded a violation of labor discipline, witness statements, an employee’s explanatory note, the conclusion of an internal audit, video, audio recordings, and more. It is essential to gently and calmly inform a manager about unscrupulous employees to correct the situation since a well-set tone is as crucial a component of speech as its content. HR, in turn, can prevent unethical behavior by creating a Code of Conduct, demonstrating employee appreciation, setting an example by their behavior, and much more.
