Benefits of Electric Vehicles Compared to Gas Vehicles

The concept of electric cars is becoming more and more popular nowadays, with many people preferring them to conventional vehicles. This is mainly because, despite being a more expensive option, electric cars have a large number of distinct advantages in comparison to gas cars. These advantages include a positive impact on the environment, low maintenance costs, and a convenient charging system.

Studies have shown that car emissions are now among the major factors contributing to pollution and the greenhouse effect. Indeed, according to the U.S. Environment Protection Agency, “a typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year”. However, electric vehicles have been proven to produce “considerably lower emissions over their lifetime than conventional (internal combustion engine) vehicles” (Hausfather). Therefore, electric cars would be a more efficient way to fight climate change in comparison to gas cars. In addition, electric vehicles have also been stated to be “far quieter than their diesel and gasoline cousins” (Frangoul). Hence, it can be argued that they are more sustainable and environmentally friendly in terms of noise pollution.

Another factor to consider is the cost of the vehicle and its maintenance expenses. According to a 2020 Consumer Report study, “EV owners spend 60% less on fuel compared to internal combustion engine vehicles” (qtd. in Winters). Although electric cars may have higher purchase prices, low maintenance costs are a significant advantage. It is also believed that EVs are considerably easier to charge, with “a compact, all-weather home charging unit” available for home use (“The Many Benefits of Electric Cars”). In addition to the advantages mentioned above, a more convenient charging system is an important aspect to consider when comparing electric and gas vehicles.

It can be concluded that the number of people using cars is continuing to increase, so it is extremely important to take different factors into account before choosing between electric and gas cars. This essay has analyzed several benefits of electric vehicles compared to gas vehicles. The analysis has shown that a more positive impact on the environment, lower maintenance costs, and easily accessible charging are the main benefits of electric cars.
