CAN Community Health is a federal health agency in Florida, USA. Since 1991, the non-profit organization has continuously served the Florida community that lives with HIV. It has now extended its health services to the southern part of the country. The agency has always been dedicated to the continued wellness, care and treatment of persons living with Hepatitis C, STDs, and HIV (“CAN Community Health (CCH)-Our Mission”, 2021). Clinics offered within the Health facility include dental, medical, lifestyle and psychological counselling to its patients. CAN Community Health also provides support, education and assistance to other local organizations since it supports the members of the LGBT community.
Mission
CAN Community Health’s mission is to give the best care through clinical practice, education, outreach, research and advocacy (“CCH-Our Mission”, 2021). As a result, it inspires and contributes to the well-being and health of persons affected by Hepatitis C, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV.
Organizational Structure
The chairpersons of the Board of Directors of CAN Community Health as of 26th August 2019 are Mr Robert Trisolini, board co-chair whose term is from 2018-2021 and Ms Leona Collesano. Board members are Bob Trisolini, a retired businessman, Demetrius Jifunza, the owner of Mt. Olive Church, Meadow Walker, Centerstone Behavioral Health Hospital, and Richard Carlisle, a CAN Community Health representative (“Board/Executive Team,” 2021). They also include Phil Baker, a retired real estate agent, and Nati Shaba, a businessman.
Operations
CAN Community Health has three programs in which it operates. The first program is STD and HIV medical services program. The initiative is designed to provide medical treatment services and care to persons and families affected by or living with Sexually Transmitted Diseases, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C. Patients have access to nursing staff, physicians and speciality medical providers regardless of their ability to pay consultation fees. The second program is Dental Services Program (“CAN Community Health (CCH) Services,” 2021). This program addresses dental issues to persons and families affected by or living with Sexually Transmitted Diseases, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis C. It is stated that unaddressed dental problems to persons living with HIV may lead to the hosting of other medical conditions. The agency provides oral cancer screening, extractions, dentures, cleanings, dental evaluations, X-rays and exams. The dental services are a hallmark of success in the actual plan of taking care of HIV infected persons
The third program is Prescription Assistance Program, which is designed for prescribing drugs to persons living with STDs, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis. The challenges of accessing prescribed medications meant for treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS are barriers (“CCH Services”, 2021). Prescription of medicines to patients by CAN Community Health is inspired by its mission in removing “barriers to care”. This enables patients have access to the beast quality healthcare services.
Budgeting
According to news from the health department in Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis made tremendous investments in the 2021 Legislative Session. One of the critical allocations that favored CAN Community Health was $127.3 million for combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Florida through prevention, surveillance, and treatment efforts. However, with the surge of HIV infected individuals, the allocation is minimal, resulting in the agency coming up with various sources of income to maximize its ability to impact the community positively (“Funding,” 2021). CAN Community Health agency receives funds through donations, insurance companies (for performed services), grants from the state governments and federal, special events, and 340B pharmacies which provide funding its programs.
