Cancer: Symptoms and Consequences

Introduction

The problem of cancer disease is spread all over the world because of global difficulties of its treatment. The identification of the notion “cancer” is not strictly fixed in the sphere of medicine. It combines thousands different types of cancer forms affecting almost every organ of human organism. The representatives of the medical science from the whole world are constantly concentrating their methodic on the disclosure of the cancer nature. The development of cancer and the research of cancer statistics are considered to be centralized issues in the sphere of medical science as they are the background for the deep understanding of the disease causes and the ways of its treatment.

The Development of Cancer

To understand the development of cancer in the human organism it is necessary to realize the biological aspects of the inner organs structure. Cells which form our body are constantly being in the process of division and multiplying. In cases of over multiplying phenomenon its growth leads to malignancy having the cancerous form. This condition is considered to be life threatening for the inner functioning of human organs.

The cells being within malignant tumors usually invade the neighboring organs and tissues. It results in the disease spreading through the whole human organism. The cells having the cancerous form can became the part of the blood stream affecting the functioning of the organs. Such a phenomenon is called the process of metastasis. The development of cancer within the human body can have complicated forms in case it affects organs and tissues at the same time. The research of the cancer types is considered to be rather sophisticated because it covers the majority of biological aspects as to the structure of the organism and the peculiarities of its functioning. (Fayed, 2006)

The Symptoms of Cancer

In order to recognize the nature of cancer, one should be definitely aware of its symptoms. The number of people affected by cancer forms is really enormous and this fact shocks the sphere of medical research in every country of the world. Specialists try to investigate the true nature of the cancer causes and reflect the seriousness of the problem among the population. The disclosure of the cancer symptoms can help people to recognize the disease in order to consult specialists as soon as possible. (Johansson, 2008)

Thus, the symptoms of the cancer are the following:

  • Suffering the unintentional loss of weight;

People can lose more than ten pounds in a short period of time without any diets. This symptom is considered to refer to the initial stages of the cancer manifestation.

  • Persistent fatigue

People suffer this symptom at the initial stages of cancer development; it is vivid in case the cancer is advanced.

  • Skin changes;

One of the most vivid changes of the skin during the cancer development inside the human organism is considered to be reddening, darkening, jaundice, the rapid growth of hair, and itchiness of the skin. It is important to stress that this symptom can help to recognize the form of cancer and indicate its type. (Cancer: Symptoms and Signs, 2007)

  • Fever and pain;

Very often people suffer fever when cancer affects the human immune system; in the progressive form of cancer, fever is considered to be a normal phenomenon. In case cancer is completely progressed the patient suffers strong pain. This condition can be an indication of bone cancer (Kanerva, 2008).

Cancer Treatment

As it was stated by the American Medical Association, it is difficult and almost impossible to control the development of cancer. This disease takes the central place in the sphere of medicine and the effectiveness of its treatment is still open to discussion. The methods of medical interference into cancer control require effective and professional equipment, skilled specialists, and the desire of the patient to fight cancer in order to stay alive (Moss, 2007).

Patients suffering from the affection of cancer are considered to go through complicated way of medical treatment, having a lot of different operations and therapies. The research of all kinds of cancer treatment is global and covers sophisticated aspects and individual approaches to every person. Nevertheless one of the common and basic methods of cancer treatment is therapy, to be more exact chemotherapy. This kind of treatment is considered to cover the process of drug usage to fight the cells of cancer (Gannon, 2007). The involvement of chemotherapy in the process of treatment is important to life and health condition of the patients. It should be noted that people can help themselves in the course of chemotherapy. Researchers use different chemotherapeutic drugs for cancerous cells killing affecting good blood supply. An anaerobic bacterium is one of the methods to improve the state of the patient. When they came in contact with cancerous cells it results in the complete disturbance of the hazardous substances and the blood supply takes an effective form (Richardson, 2007).

The process of chemotherapy treatment should be felt not only on the part of the doctors but patients as well. There are some steps that the decreasing allow fighting should be taken into account by people suffering from cancer disease:

  • The patient is to inform the doctor about the detailed effects of the treatment. It means that the doctor should know the manifestation of constipation, tiredness, coughing, ear ringing, etc. Very often chemotherapy leads to the loss of hair, skin changes, and sickness of the stomach.
  • One should inform the doctor about the taking of other medicine in case they are not prescribed by him;
  • The patient is to take care of his state and lead a healthy lifestyle. It is necessary to keep weight in the fixed norm and keep certain diets; the patient is to take care of his mouth, have blood tests and control the state of the immune system avoiding people with flu or colds.
  • The disclosure of the patients’ feelings is considered to be an important aspect of the treatment aid;

Rapid changes in the mood of the patient are quite normal that is why these people usually suffer stress and inner instability. Social contact with the doctor and surrounding people, specialists would result in a certain control of one’s moral state (Helping Yourself During Chemotherapy, 2001).

How far we have come or Statistics

The analysis of the cancer affection statistics for the previous years has shown that the number of people suffering from the disease is considered to be constantly increasing. The specialists can explain this phenomenon by the way of life led by modern society. The figures are shocking. According to the statistics carried out by the American Cancer Center, the number of deaths for the 2008 year among women reached more than 271,520 and among men about 294,120. One of the most spread types of cancer among the patients is the cancer of the bronchus and lungs. About 31% of males and 26% of females suffer fatal consequences of the cancer disease connected with the cancer affection of the lungs, prostate, and breast. The development of the disease takes place among the youth predominantly because of the harmful way of life led by them. Smoking is one of the most dangerous presuppositions of cancer affection. The awareness of this fact is high in modern society; nevertheless, it does not decrease the number of young smokers. As the statistics have shown about 70% of the reasons for cancer affection is the usage of tobacco. Besides, the number of female smokers is not much lower than that of males’ (American Cancer Society, 2008).

Conclusion

The cancer research managed to show the true reasons for cancer spreading in society and measures people should take in case they are affected. The number of patients is constantly increasing. Such positions cause debates in the sphere of medicine resulting in constant international gatherings of the medical specialists for the experience sharing aimed at the situation improving. We managed to investigate the symptoms of cancer and its consequences. The disclosure of the statistics allowed evaluating the seriousness of the problem not only in the USA but in the whole world. The understanding of the cancer problem would give an opportunity to fight the disease or decrease the number of cancer patients.
