Introduction
To compare is to examine ways in which certain things are similar, while to contrast is to see how things in question can differ. Therefore, this compares and contrasts essay which will look into the similarities and the differences of two objects which in this case are two close people who I have the same kind of relationship with. The two objects to be used in this essay are two of my aunts both from my paternal side. Although they share a similarity, both my aunts are different in many ways and therefore, this paper will explain the shared similarity between them. The paper will also explore three differences they have in terms of education, finances, and marriage.
Comparison
To begin with, the two aunts are younger than my biological father and live separately from their parents. One is older than the other and the major similarity is that they are both married and are mothers to two children each. They both hold family dearly and assert the ideology that family is instituted to protect personal growth, for companionship, and offer physical and emotional support.
Contrast
On the other hand, when education, marriage, and financial factors are put into consideration, the two aunts are shown to each bring out a difference from the other. For instance, when education attainment levels are considered, one of the aunts has a master’s degree in strategic marketing while the other only completed up to high school level. Having excelled academically, the aunt with a master’s degree exhibits a higher knowledge and information literacy. This is based on the rich vocabulary use, application of various concepts in solving real-life problems, and ability to integrate varied ideologies, values, and beliefs diligently. For this reason, the level of education attained poses a major difference between the two aunts.
Similarly, despite the two aunts living far from their parent’s place, one of the aunts is financially stable, while the other struggles to make ends meet and pay bills. The financially stable aunt has her bought and fully furnished house in a rich suburb, a car, assets, and investments. She also saves up a buffer of money monthly, and therefore, bills and unexpected costs are covered whenever they arise. On the other hand, the other aunt has some financial constraints as she lives up in a low-budget apartment and uses an old car. Many are the times she borrows money to pay for gas and settle other expenses she incurs daily. She works in a salon, and therefore, does not earn enough to pay all the bills as well as unexpected costs. Therefore, finances bring out another major difference between the two subjects.
On the same note, attitude about life is another additional difference between the two aunts. The financially stable and educated aunt has believed that an individual can change, grow, learn, and thrive through having a growth mindset. She believes that intrinsic motivation to learn new skills, manage mental toughness, and willpower is of the essence. The other aunt approaches life with negativity at times as she usually has a fixed mindset that has seen her work in the salon for several years instead of making her talent better. Consequently, when gauging the different attitudes towards life, the dominant characteristic is put into consideration.
Conclusion
In conclusion, despite the differences, my two aunts recognize that they are sisters and love each other unconditionally. As they hold their nucleated family close, they also cherish their extended family and regularly check on each other. They are both successful in their ways when education attainment and financial stability are put constantly. The affordability of luxury expenses and investment plans poses a difference between my two aunts. Therefore, from the paper, it is clear that despite both of my aunts holding family values dear, their level of education and financial attainment, and attitudes towards life are different.
