The advancement of technology has radically changed communication and business interaction. Whereas earlier a conference had to be organized to convey important news to the staff, now this task can be performed by touching a screen (Stojkovicet al., 2014). Although computers are only a means to convey information, they can boost communicative efficiency substantially. Understanding the ways of improving traditional communication is essential in ascertaining the most effective use of digital technology.
First, it is important to realize that for communication to be successful, all sides have to share the common goal. An organization should foster mutual understanding among its members. Bureaucracy presupposes procedures and rules, which can only be followed provided there is respect for them within the organization. Therefore, management can encourage the staff to sharpen communication skills by organizing comprehensive training in interpersonal interactions.
Second, it should be noted that computers themselves do not increase the effectiveness of communication. However, digital interaction substantially quickens the speed of information flow. Today, employees can get all the necessary information at home while using a computer. It is possible to immediately connect people in distant places by holding online conferences and video calls. Moreover, the ability to access the same information with a cell phone allows reaching an employee at virtually any point.
Altogether, it should be evident that despite the change of form, the essence of communication will remain the same. Regardless of the medium within which information flows, communication is only effective when all sides are willing to understand each other and respect the established rules. Combined with the speed of computerized technology, teaching the staff essentials of intrapersonal interactions will allow communicative culture to thrive.
