Introduction
A debate regarding the political system in the US is a controversial topic. On the one hand, the state is usually characterized as democratic, while on the other, many issues affecting the daily lives of the citizens remain unresolved. Despite the proclamation that the country is a democracy, the political events suggest that this model does not correspond to the actual state of things in the US.
Democracy in the US
Politics is any activity that is connected to governing and developing laws or regulations in a particular area. Such actions aim to ensure that the citizens of a country, in this case, America, live in a valid environment and that the use of collected taxes is proper and benefits the country. Democracy is a way of governing a state in accordance to which the inhabitants decide on significant policies and actions. Within this model, the decisions of the people should be reflected in the laws and regulations. However, the real-life execution of democratic principles is obstructed by the boundaries of the existing system. In general, it is nearly impossible to incorporate each citizen in the decision-making process regarding the essential elements of the country’s functioning. The elected representatives – the President, Senators, and other officials act using their beliefs and not referring to the people’s opinion. In general, the country is subjected to many controversial issues, including gun control, violence, wages, and immigration that are not adequately addressed or resolved by these officials.
Conclusion
Overall, it can be argued that politics in America are not genuinely democratic. The current approaches to decision-making do not account for the opinion of the citizens. However, reforms can further improve the existing system by incorporating innovation, for instance, the internet and e-government systems, into the political process. This will allow each person living in the US to voice their opinion regarding issues that concern them.
