Purpose Statement
I intend to examine how the democratic leadership style functions in the marketing team in my working environment. The marketing team consists of ten people who are responsible for different operations of the sector. These people are integral to the development of the mid-sized tech company.
Our tasks are related to the creation and execution of marketing strategies and campaigns. We aim to increase brand awareness and drive customer engagement for the sales boost. Over the last two years, the team increased the product offering, and as a team leader, I believe this was the main point of the company’s development.
Overview of the Selected Leadership Form
The leadership inside the team is democratic, as it emphasizes the importance of decision-making, collaboration, and creativity. According to Woods (2020), This style seeks workers’ input and feedback on the management strategy. Team members make verdicts together and are not afraid to ask for support to boost the egalitarian approach.
One of the main strengths of the leadership style is enhanced team morale and participation, as different ideas are highly valued. However, the process of finding solutions to problems and filling the gaps in operations can be very slow due to the constant meetings and discussions. This issue can decrease performance as it becomes complicated to follow fast-changing trends. The team may start gravitating towards democratic leadership when collective creative thinking is required and new innovation solutions are in the high need.
Application of Leadership in the Group
Team members engage in this form of leadership by presenting their ideas in front of the other colleagues regarding the upcoming campaigns. Everyone’s input is valued, and the feedback is not neglected. There have been instances where a junior member proposed a unique idea to target specific segments of the business, and after a deep discussion, the team collectively decided to integrate this idea into the current marketing strategy.
Another notable example is seen in the process of finding advertising channels. Every worker shows their ideas, and in the end, voting is promoted. This technique ensures that everyone understands the company’s marketing shapes and can commit effectively. Finally, the team encourages free communication between departments and ensures that every person disregarding the position can share their voice and protect business cohesion. Therefore, employees feel empowered and recognized in the working environment.
Evaluation and Recommendations for Improvement
To ensure a more effective engagement in democratic leadership, proactive participation can be promoted to enhance open communication and opinion expression. Rotating leadership roles during meetings can be introduced to stimulate discussion involvement. Moreover, technology should be utilized to boost brainstorming and virtual thinking.
The leadership in my group is effective, but there is always room to grow further. For instance, the decision-making process can be refined to strike a balance between inclusivity and efficiency. In the case of a massive campaign, sub-teams should not be avoided, and it is important to control every member’s participation to ensure daily agility and progress. Skill development is one of the most important aspects of every successful team.
Consequently, the company should continue investing in training inside and outside the office. To achieve these goals, I recommend adapting leadership in every individual through training and collaboration. Moreover, I believe that it is crucial to encourage recognition inside the specific department of the business and celebrate the achievement of every worker who contributed to the success of the proposed marketing strategy.
