The main aim of treating individuals who have undergone substance abuse and addiction is to offer a channel of services that can assist towards their recovery and support system, treatment of addicted persons, early intervention programs, and community intervention (Saddler, 2008). To bolster the effectiveness of the treatment program, the targeted group includes those who are facing addiction problems and substance abuse addicts such as persons who abuse alcohol.
There is a complex interaction in the recovery and treatment support system. Some of the areas that are given key attention include psychotherapy treatments, medical prescriptions, and general rehabilitation procedures. As such, trained professionals such as healthcare experts and peer counselors are used to ensure that the addicted persons receive much-needed help.
The treatment program has been deemed to be generally effective since drug abusers are given keen attention and adequate follow-up processes. The affected individuals are also allowed to actively participate in the process of their rehabilitation. The latter strategy is necessary since the program caters to the diverse Illinois population (Saddler, 2008).

The production and consumption of drugs that are addictive continue to be a core challenge in the modern world. This is the reason why there is an increased need for treatment of individuals affected by drug addiction. Nonetheless, various models for drug addiction and treatment have been devised to assist in explaining the etiology of substance and drug abuse (Craig, 2004).
The social learning and behavioral theories are based on the fact that the adoption of drug and substance abuse can automatically take place in an environment where there are conditioning and teaching (Craig, 2004). Hence, the most important consideration is the level of significance of any of the factors that lead to addiction. In terms of conditioning, the initial use of drugs is usually reinforced by the social setting of the victim. The social pressure is later transformed or replaced with the pharmacological conditioning that eventually compels the victim into full-time abuse of drugs. Hence, both the process of learning and two-level conditioning is integral in the use and abuse of drugs and substances.
According to expectancy theories, people’s feelings can be affected by their belief systems (Craig, 2004). On the same note, their behaviors can also be affected by what they expect. Therefore, drug and substance abuse does take place as a result of what individuals expect in their daily lives. Needless to say, an individual will be addicted to alcohol or other drugs due to personal expectations that the drug being consumed is addictive.

The time that provided the major paradigm shift in the treatment of drug-related cases was during the last three decades. The latter took place after policymakers thought it wise to introduce better treatment and intervention measures. In any case, the social challenges posed by substance and drug abuse have become major setbacks towards development in many states. While the treatment and intervention programs have been major areas of focus for some time now, it is worth to note that a lot still needs to be done especially in regards to educating the public in terms of abstaining from drug and substance abuse (Connors, Donovan & Diclemente, 2001). The current spate of lawlessness and acts of violence can be directly attributed to the drug menace.
