E-Bay Code of Ethics and Its Main Points

Introduction

A code of ethics establishes an institution’s ethical rules and industry standards for maintaining honesty, integrity, and competence. While working as a consultant at eBay, I studied the code of ethics to understand my rights and opportunities. Organizational members who violate the code of ethics may face punishment, possibly expulsion (Altaweel & Hadjitofi, 2020). eBay’s Code of Ethics allows the business to standardize its primary purpose, which is to create equality and respect among all employees, both within and outside the corporation. eBay operates by the highest ethical and legal standards. This Code of Business Conduct emphasizes some of the regulations and standards that one must be aware of to pass the exam of becoming an eBay worker or client. The main points of the eBay code of ethics are Business Integrity, Labor and Human Rights, Environmental Responsibility, Cooperation with Regulators, and Communication. Many potential businesses doubt their abilities and rights in the workplace. Therefore, they should use their code of ethics, like eBay does, to guide their operations.

Summary of main points of eBay’s code of ethics

The main points with eBay’s code of ethics are the following: First, third parties should guarantee their subcontractors recognize and follow comparable rules of behavior. Second, as an equal opportunity employer, eBay Inc offers equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants, regardless of age, racial group, appearance, ethnic origin, or physical or mental incapacity (eBay Inc., 2022). Moreover, there is no bias based on sexual identity, religious doctrine, sexual preference, gender identification, gender orientation, marriage or former soldier status, pregnant women’s condition, genetic material, or any other legally protected character trait. Third, third parties may employ genuine, voluntary workplace retraining programs, such as undergraduate apprenticeships, as long as all rules and regulations are followed (eBay Inc., 2022). Fourth, every employee must be treated with dignity and respect; there shall be no physical, sexual, psychological, or verbal intimidation or abuse of any employee (eBay Inc., 2022). Distributors will offer a safe and healthy work environment to avoid accidents or injuries resulting from, related to, or occurring in work or due to activities on the employer’s premises.

In my career, while following the organization’s code of ethics, no employees under the age of 18 will be employed since that might endanger the firm’s health, morality, or well-being. Therefore, no one under the age of 14 should be engaged unless expressly authorized by the national laws in which the individual is employed. To handle the recruitment of employees under the age of 18 years, I will use the code of ethics to ensure that no third party tampers with a children’s upbringing by hiring a child in contravention of a country’s compulsory education legislation. A code of ethics is applicable worldwide; as such, in my career, I will ensure to acknowledge the critical importance that ethical standards play in a company’s brand perception, which is essentially its most valuable asset. That will result in dedication to doing business responsibly, providing worker safety, and improving environmental responsibilities. To ascertain this, I will take actions to ensure conformity and resolve alleged incidents of code disobedience. I will also be dedicated to recruiting, promoting, and rewarding people based on their credentials and proven ability to execute job duties.

Moreover, I will ensure that suppliers pay fair wages under fair working conditions. These performance indicators show how cooperation between employer and employee should take place. Additionally, a good example would be that I met people with a wide variety of views and preferences when hiring new employees, which indicates that the company is working on equality and respect between colleagues.

Benefits of eBay’s code of ethics

The Code of Ethics is the same for all divisions of the corporation, which helps the company conduct business more efficiently. Since the code of ethics is applied directly around the world, this is an advantage because the entire company operates under the same rules. For example, the code allows managers to minimize the number of precedents when something goes wrong with the code. In this way, you can provide the corporation with safety and confidence in the work of employees.

A firm code of ethics provides employees with advice in morally perplexing circumstances. Instead of picking up all the pieces after a bad ethical judgment, teach staff what habits to embrace and which to reject to avoid ethics violations. An essential benefit of the corporate code of ethics implies the admission to work of absolutely all people who have reached the required age (Contreras et al., 2019). For example, when an item says the company supports all people despite their views and external signs., the company shows itself to be friendly to new employees.

Conclusion

Summing up, it can be said that the code of ethics of the eBay corporation is indicative and, in many ways, universal for many global corporations. A code of ethics provides the ethical guidelines and technical standards for sustaining honesty, integrity, and competency. eBay works under the strictest ethical and legal policies. This Code of Business Conduct highlights some of the rules and regulations that must be followed to transfer the exam to become an eBay employee or client. eBay Inc has been recognized as one of the most responsible corporations in the country. eBay acknowledges the crucial role that moral norms play in a company’s business impression, which is its most important commodity. eBay Inc is committed to the hiring, developing, and compensating people based on their qualifications and ability to perform job obligations. In addition, the Third Party should not interfere with a child’s upbringing by hiring a child in violation of a country’s enforcement of the existing statute. Providers will not knowingly hire someone who is not legally allowed to work, as current laws define.
