The assigned readings include comprehensive information regarding the setting and the ethical aspects of assisting students and their parents. Thus, Summers (2016) writes that morality is an essential component of helping individuals, and the consideration of issues through this lens allows for addressing the gap in legal provisions’ ethics. This idea relates to the social work profession by guaranteeing the presence of proper guidance for employees, which is multi-faceted. In the case of my internship, it also proved to be crucial since the coordination of efforts between children and their parents could not be efficient when neglecting this principle. I applied it to the task of recording only the experiences of learners connected to school instead of unjustified interventions in personal life. The learned materials in class confirmed this necessity as they also emphasized the significance of ethics in the workplace.
In addition, achieving results in this field can be possible only when taking into account the setting. As per Shulman (2016), the focus on academic achievements rather than any possible mental issues is needed for making a change, and this provision implies that social workers should be careful when observing students. In my internship, this factor examined in class as an essential aspect of gathering data proved to be critical when working on students’ self-esteem. It could be affected only when addressing the outcomes of their activity in school rather than in any context in general. The knowledge of ethics and the setting helped me find a balance between the needs of all participants and limit suggestions to the most critical challenges they faced. These topics reminded me of the need for a professional to be flexible at work to guarantee positive outcomes, and I will use this information in the future by adjusting to current conditions.
