We live in the era of modern technologies. These technologies are used in different areas of our life. Healthcare information systems have been developed since they are implemented. A profession of a healthcare informatics specialist has become the most desired specialty nowadays. Healthcare informatics may be used to unite the work of Information Technology Departments, hospitals, medical staff, physicians, administrators, and patients.
One of the basic aims of modern healthcare informatics is to make all available information electronic databases to be available on the internet. The health care systems are on the way to developing from specialized systems to the most integrated ones. There is a large flow of information that should be segmented and constructed in the whole hierarchical system (Ohmann & Kuchinke, 2009). It is not an easy task as far as modern society changes and the healthcare system should correspond to these changes quickly.
As for the impact of the future trends on the healthcare delivery system, three main population trends may be pointed out to influence the future of the healthcare delivery system. These trends are changes in society, the development of technologies, and healthcare as well (Achieve for the ‘History & Future of Healthcare Informatics’ Category, 2012). Changes in society presuppose that more and more people use the computer and cannot imagine their life without it. It should be noted that the majority of the users of healthcare services are elder people as far as there is observed a certain decline in births and deaths. That is why the healthcare delivery system should orient at these elder people who are the potential users. More than that, ethnic diversity and multiculturalism have become an integral part of our society and health care services should consider their diverse users. Everyone has access to the Internet and all healthcare information is available for society. The future trend is that every patient is responsible for his/her state of health.
Taking into account the technological changes there is no wonder that modern healthcare informatics has become very popular as far as computers have become an ordinary thing of human life. As far as it has become affordable for nearly everyone to have a computer healthcare informatics has been developed rapidly. All potential patients are internet users, and it will be easier to be treated via the internet. More than that, the development of modern technologies has made medical education more available, and more and more people may become specialists with the help of internet training.
The development of modern technologies has influenced the whole system of health care. It has become easier to find the necessary information, share medical experience on the international level and as a result, the progress has been developing faster. The rise of the availability of information and education will empower both patients and providers. Every patient will be aware of all information and be engaged in the process of his/her treatment (Winter, n.d.).
From the above said, we may conclude that the development of modern technologies has influenced every area of our life including healthcare services. People have accustomed to using the internet regularly and there is no wonder that there is the necessity to provide health care services via the internet. The future promises that all information available to us will be integrated into the internet and be used by every potential client. Nevertheless, the availability of health services does not presuppose its effectiveness.
