The survey is one of the methods used to collect data for a quantitative study. This technique enables a researcher to collect a vast pool of data and cover quite large populations (Babbie, 2016). It has been found that many programs concerning housing for people with special needs are not effective or fail to reach their target populations (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, 2015). The identification of students’ needs and attitudes can be implemented with the help of the survey based on the Likert Scale. The measured variables will be students’ knowledge (high or low) and students’ attitude (positive or negative) towards some housing programs, and students’ perspectives (positive or negative) concerning their future associated with housing. To analyze the data, the model will be summarized, which will help reveal the level of knowledge and major attitudes of the participants (Bryman, 2015).

The items included in the survey are related to awareness about some programs, attitudes towards programs, and opinions concerning people’s prospects of benefiting from the programs. The major challenge associated with the development of the Likert Scale is to come up with questions precise and narrow enough. After reading each question, the participants should be able to agree or disagree with the statement. It is vital to make sure no bias or manifold meanings are present. It is also essential to ask the most relevant questions. For instance, the preliminary research shows that major issues involve the financial aspect, which makes it critical to use the corresponding item in the survey. It is also necessary to identify whether a person is involved in the process of decision-making when it comes to housing as some students may be ignorant of programs due to their being disinterested in the matter. However, it is possible to note that the Likert Scale is an effective and convenient tool for measuring people’s attitudes and the level of knowledge.
