Mental Health Nursing, Interventions and Strategies

Mental health nursing is a multi-component and complex process requiring specific training and knowledge. The foundations are based on the fact that recovery from mental disease must focus on the patient’s life experiences, health concerns, abilities, and goals. The primary purpose of nurses is to help with emotional trauma and stress and bring the person back to everyday life (Greenberg, 2020). Legal problems are primarily concerned with the possibility of equal access to medical services for the mental patient. Moreover, the risk of discrimination in cultural, social, and professional circles is a social concern, creating a massive barrier to treatment.

The interventions for patients with certain cognitive, addictive, and psychotic conditions are manifold, and every nurse must be able to make the proper choices. It should include reinforcing individual coping skills, facilitating the exploration of new ways to reduce anxiety, promoting family involvement in a rehabilitation program, and providing information about prognosis and treatment needs (Fusar-Poli, 2019). Moreover, the nurse must evaluate care strategies for other mental health disorders. It is essential to take an individualized approach in each case to accomplish this. The assessment should involve an in-depth analysis of the patient’s problem and condition, the establishment of good communication, and provision the of patient-centered care.

The care of clients with stress-related disorders often includes two types of interventions – somatic and psychotherapeutic. The nurse’s primary role in their implementation is to ensure medication routines are followed, conduct necessary relaxation, and eliminate triggers with the patient. A person’s level of mental health is determined by numerous social, psychological, and biological factors. For example, violence or sustained socio-economic pressures are recognized as risk factors for the mental health of special populations (Greenberg, 2020). Poor mental health is associated with fast social transformation, stressful working circumstances, gender discrimination, and exclusion. Communication skills developed gradually through the practice of interacting with various patients. Knowledge of the feelings and emotions of patients with psychological problems helped to understand them better, and thus make contact by using the key phrases necessary for their comfort. This will help improve contact with patients and build the necessary level of trust to facilitate more effective treatment.
