A Diverse Approach to the Healthcare Reform

The institutional context in which healthcare processes occur and the way these processes are organized in determining the efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare system play an important role in the advent of the increase in the complexity of care teams, as well as advances in science and technology (Bohmer, 2009). The delivery of quality services is an important topic among healthcare professionals and particularly managers today because it plays an important role in the delivery of efficient care to many more Americans. Focus has in history been shifted on the need to ensure as many Americans as possible as a way of improving care, but currently, major concerns have shifted towards the need for the provision of quality care. Although ensuring as many people as possible is an important step to improving healthcare, delivery of quality care is important in making sure that the health of the people is maintained and that average life expectancy goes high. If those people accessing medical attention and care today were able to be provided with proper and quality medication, the rate of returning to the hospital for medical check-up and attention would reduce. In addition, because many more Americans die as a result of complications of illnesses that have been attended before due to poor quality of health, improving the latter will reduce such occurrences.

Healthcare professionals hold a very crucial role in providing healthcare services to the people as they interact with them. The provision of quality services to the citizens is largely tied to the competence and qualifications of the healthcare practitioners, as well as the surrounding conditions that determine the performance at the workplace. Therefore, to ensure that the American healthcare system is competent on a global scale, it is important to ensure that professionals are both qualified and that every effort is made to retrain and advance their careers while at work. In addition, it is important to ensure that the conditions are favorable to boost their morale and motivation to do a better job and improve on efficiency. Every healthcare practitioner must be concerned about the quality of services they render. The Non-influence of healthcare practice by politics needs consideration. This also calls for strict regulation of the medical practice through proper politically neutral policies and guidelines to guide the management of the healthcare facilities and hospitals (Mason, Leavitt, & Chaffee, 2007). Managers should be able to factor out these issues and formulate policies that work best for their institutions. More important to the administrator, is the qualification and professional competence of the medical staff. The administrator possesses an important role in ensuring that citizens have access to quality care through hiring qualified professionals. In addition, the responsibility of having qualified and competent workers within the medical field lies within the mandate of the government since they can regulate the requirements for acceptance and practice into the profession, and also within the mandate of the training institutions because they can raise the entry and graduation qualifications. The provision of quality services also cuts across hiring the best technology and technological solutions to attend to healthcare needs (Lagace, 2009). Medical and informational technologies should be an important focus for managers in the healthcare sector in addition to other trends for the future development of the healthcare sector (Institute for the Future, 2003).

To succeed in healthcare reform, the government must focus not on one aspect of healthcare, but a diverse approach is beneficial. The diverse approach focuses on improving all aspects of healthcare, ranging from the provision of quality services through improving workforce performance and catering for their training needs, provision of adequate healthcare facilities, and improving insurance coverage for as many citizens as possible. Balancing all these aspects will help the government not to lean on one area while neglecting the others but realize their effects later on.
