Organizational Culture and Its Components

Organizational culture occupies a critical place in the existence of any institution. A wrong approach to this issue can quickly destroy any enterprise. The purpose of the essay is to analyze the components of organizational culture using various examples.

This problem is essential not only for business enterprises but also for other structures. First of all, the culture of the institution can be assessed by its appearance. Undoubtedly, such internal factors as lighting, room temperature, and humidity can give a much more complete assessment (Ricciardi & Buratti, 2018). However, sometimes just looking at the building itself is enough to draw some conclusions. Let us take a photo of Saint Joseph’s college located in Brooklyn, New York, as an example. The university’s external environment can be described on the positive side, noting the surrounding vegetation (Wikipedia Commons, 2013). The structures, despite their age, look good, and repairs were made to them. Their design combines rigor, modern motifs with the classic details inherent in colleges. This combination is ideal for the concept of the educational environment.

Organizational culture can also be considered in the example of business companies, as any person continually encounters them. One of my favorite online shopping companies is worldwide known as Amazon. Its working methods aim to provide all kinds of amenities for the client. At the same time, one local online store in my city selling audio equipment has a much worse internal organization. A feature of many businesses, including Amazon, is its active adaptation to the conditions of a changing market (Felipe et al., 2017). Despite all the problematic external factors, the corporation retains its delivery time. However, due to the lack of a clear structure, the store in my city began to delay the delivery without giving reasons, which caused my interest to decline.

Organizational culture is an essential component of any business that can significantly increase enterprise productivity. The creation of a unique cultural atmosphere and the setting of social norms promote the discipline of workers. The better developed this area is, the more effective the company can show results (Warrick, 2017). Another important factor of culture in an organization is its orientation, organic or mechanistic. While the first approach encourages freedom of action, the second is designed for a strict hierarchy (Kimberlee, 2020). However, from my point of view, the organic structure has numerous advantages, as it allows employees to cooperate and fully reveal their potential.
