In my life, I have experienced many challenges and opportunities which have shaped my religious views, spirituality, and personhood. What I am is a sum of experiences that I have gone through. Some of the times I thought were the worst built character traits and values that are beneficial to me. To that, I am thankful for the God they happened to me. I was often bullied in school, and classmates had nicknamed me “Sir piggy” because I was obese. The worst was a boy named Tom who had devised a song to mock my body. This made me depressed, and my social life was negatively affected until one day when my brother gave perhaps the most helpful advice. He told me to stand up to the bullies and not to let them mock me. I did, and although Tom beat me up, nobody bullied me again after.
I came to understand that I was in control of my life. I also knew never to bully anyone and how to feel that people are highly affected by bullies. Whenever I saw a student mock another, I came to the defense of the one being bullied. I would also talk to the bully, and most would see my point. I learned to accept what I cannot change and to do all I can to change what I can. Later in my life, I knew my body weight was in my control and practiced healthy eating and exercise. This brought massive results and affected my personality as now I believe I am in control of almost everything.
The event also affected my religious standing as now I am a believer in ensuring a good relationship with God and humans. Now, I help against discrimination of all kinds, and I am not easily frustrated if a person is critical towards me. I believe that anybody who is created by God deserves not to be bullied. Looking at myself now fit and athletic, I believe that no situation is permanent. I can preach hope to people who are suffering, knowing that hope is always there.
