Prevalence and Effectiveness of Laxative Use

It is necessary to admit that not all laxatives may be safe for patients and can be used for a long period. Sometimes, dependency and the worsening of bowel functions may be developed regarding the age of the patient (Chen et al., 2014). There are many reasons why nurses should focus on patient education about the use of laxatives, their positive and negative outcomes, and the precautionary methods that can be effective in certain situations.

The most frequent adverse effects include heart failure and permanent damage to the body. Laxative extensive use is usually characterized by such health problems as fatigue and the development of electrolyte imbalance (Ramchander & Middha, 2017). Therefore, monitoring is an effective recommendation that can be given to the patient as a part of a treatment plan. Still, a physician, as well as a nurse, has to explain to the patient about the possibility of the development of negative causes.

Constipation is a disease that is usually hard to treat and prevent because almost every drug may lead to a number of outcomes not all patients are ready for. In the post, it is mentioned that constipation may have different causes, and its pathophysiology varies. It is not enough for patients to get rid of the health problems that cause constipation. It is important to identify a source of the disease and make sure it cannot be enhanced during the chosen treatment.

Comment on Natalya’s Post

In the post under analysis, the author has offered an informative and clear discussion of all important aspects of viral rhinitis that are required for the development of treatment for a 78-year-old patient. In the beginning, enough theoretical information about viral rhinitis is given to explain that rhinitis is a disease that may have different causes and complications, and the effectiveness of a treatment plan depends on how well a nurse and other medical workers involved in the examination are able to identify the pathophysiology, etiology, and epidemiology of the disease. Nowadays, approximately 25% of the global population has symptoms of this type of rhinitis (Groves, 2017). The age of the patient is an important factor in the discussion of treatment.

The peculiar feature of this disease is the presence of complications which depend on the type of infection that causes the disease (Pellegrino, Walliczek-Dworshak, Winter, Hull, & Hummel, 2017). In this discussion, I like the approach chosen by the author. She was able to find a logical explanation and a theoretical background to every decision made and point offered. Though viral rhinitis is a common disease among many people, its complicated nature and the importance of treatment have to be discussed thoroughly.

There are many directions that can be followed, and each of them has a point. Therefore, this post contains not only the answers to the questions but also the situation as it is seen by the student. Clinical guidelines are given regarding the experience and knowledge offered by special organizations and academies. Follows-up is supported by the results of academic investigations. Modern and peer-reviewed sources are used throughout the whole post.
