The best practices of supply chain leaders worldwide are monitored by specific agencies. In the video, the list of the top twenty-five supply chain companies in the United States, was published by Gartner, one of the biggest research and advisory companies in the country (IIBR, 2014). The data from 2013 state that Intel, the company under consideration, reached the fifth position in this list (IIBR, 2014). However, the situation has changed drastically over the past seven years, and the current ranking of the IT supplier is the eighth position. In the top five of 2020, the companies are Cisco Systems, Colgate-Palmolive, Johnson & Johnson, Schneider Electric, and Nestlé. Still, this shift is conditional not only on the companies’ indicators but also on their ability to survive during the pandemic.
The mentioned organizations differ not only in the effectiveness of their policies but also in overall profitability. Thus, for example, the leader of the list, Cisco Systems, reported a revenue of $49.3 billion for the fiscal year 2019-2020. The latest indicator for Colgate-Palmolive was $16.162 billion and $80.856 for Johnson & Johnson. Schneider Electric’s report state the revenue for quarter three at the amount of $6.458 and Nestlé’s reports contain nine-month sales for 2020 – CHF 61.9 billion. Considering the current world situation, all the companies experienced financial losses, which were subsequently compensated by the reorientation of more profitable products and services. From this perspective, profitability is tied to the supply chain strategy since the seamless work of all participants is one of the principal conditions of being included in Gartner’s top 25 lists (IIBR, 2014). As can be seen from the experience of the top 5 companies of the year 2020, their success was mainly explained by the effectiveness of measures ensuring the proper connections between the supply chain elements.
