Quality Performance of Healthcare Providers

The orientation of the present-day hospitals on maintaining the quality of services provided by healthcare specialists is conditional upon the need to ensure a positive outcome of treatment for all patients. However, such a complex task seems to be challenging for most facilities, and this fact defines their unequal successes. It allows concluding on the usefulness of consideration of the methods of high-performing clinics for other hospitals. They are mostly related to the behavior and perceptions of employees and define the overall productivity of organizations.

The first method that can be borrowed by healthcare facilities in the country was elaborated in Mayo Clinic. It is connected to the attitude of staff toward their work and serves as the basis for their reputation as one of the most productive healthcare providers (Anastasijevic, 2019). Hence, the strong commitment of employees across the whole organization to serve not only patients but also communities is the key to success (Anastasijevic, 2019). This approach is complemented by other initiatives practiced by Mayo Clinic.

The second method used by their medical specialists is funding the education of employees that should correspond to current requirements. Thus, for example, in 2018, the company invested $1.1 billion in training programs for its medical specialists (Anastasijevic, 2019). As can be seen from the results of such policies, this approach proved to be extremely efficient in terms of improving and maintaining the quality of rendered services.

The third method of Mayo Clinic is the orientation on innovative approaches allowing them to be in accordance with the needs of patients. Thus, for example, this group of companies emphasizes the importance of the consideration of the patients’ best interests while making changes across the organization (Anastasijevic, 2019). In this way, employees start to feel responsibility for the outcome of their actions since the clinic’s managers provide a good role model for them.

The fourth method belongs to another large company, Kaiser Permanente, and it relates to the focus of their employees not on the process of treatment but on the outcome. The facility’s physician-led teams use evidence-based approaches to address the emerging tasks in a most efficient manner (“Hospitals recognized as ‘high-performing’,” 2018). In this way, they managed to decrease mortality and infection rates, increase the satisfaction of patients, and maintain the quality of medical services rendered by the facility’s staff.

The fifth method of Kaiser Permanente that can be used for the benefit of other clinics is the consideration of various aspects of the employees’ activity instead of focusing on a defined set of tasks. It allows these hospitals to be rated as high-performing healthcare facilities for at least one of the twenty-five measures used for the assessment (“Hospitals recognized as ‘high-performing’,” 2018). Such an outstanding outcome of their activity can be ascribed to the particular attention to all components of work and makes this method beneficial for other clinics.

To sum up, the intention to improve employee productivity in healthcare organizations can be addressed through the adoption of methods that allowed Mayo Clinic and Kaiser Permanente to become leaders in the field. Hence, the promotion of strong commitment, investments in education, adoption of innovative approaches, orientation on the desired outcome, and the consideration of all aspects of staff activity will be useful. The combination of these initiatives can comprise an effective strategy for healthcare companies across the country.
