Research Drug Safety Approaches

The strategy of Applying Drug Safety Approach

Adverse effects of drugs implemented in certain treatment and care plans began to be noted a long time ago by health care specialists and scientists. There are some restrictions to applying pharmaceutical products in health care. However, there is also risk assessment and professional consultation available whenever a drug must be implemented. To decrease the number of unwanted consequences related to drug use in medicine, a certain strategy is advisable to be formed to prevent and control them.

There are many types of research that focus on promoting drug safety measures as well as providing health care with innovative approaches to risk assessment and drug safety monitoring. Ahmed (2016) reports on challenges related to manually assessing drug safety and implementing adequate responsive measures to mitigate and prevent risks. The author notes that, while assessing and monitoring drug safety, “handling reports manually gives companies very little time to evaluate, review and verify each case” (Ahmed, 2016, para. 5). Therefore, a strategy implemented to promote drug safety requires automated means of handling reports. It would also be rational to enable advanced practice nurses to create such reports automatically or by using certain technology that would simplify the process.

However, implementing a strategy solely in the framework of health care institutions might not be sufficient. Freifeld et al. (2014) report that drug safety remains at significantly low levels in the mass media. Therefore, it is required to promote drug safety outside of health care institutions and enable proper education to ensure that patients are aware of drug safety measures as well as of severeness of using drugs in general. Reaching certain levels of awareness would also make it possible for health care institutions to receive larger amounts of financing to implement proper drug safety measures.

Bai, Fontana, Price, and Sangar (2014) offer their evaluation of an innovative approach to drug safety assessment as well as achieving further knowledge regarding certain drug types. The authors state that health care science requires new approaches to pharmacology modeling due to a number of reasons. Firstly, systems pharmacology modeling would allow health care specialists to determine both adverse and positive effects that drugs have on the human organs, tissues, and organisms in general. Secondly, this type of modeling would allow creating certain case studies or models that will visualize potential threats as well as effects that implementation of a drug in the course of treatment might have. Finally, it will be possible for advanced practice nurses to create drug safety reports in advance based on the models that they create for patients individually.

Effect on Advanced Practice Nursing

Therefore, adopting a proper systematic approach to drug safety might make advanced practice nurses’ working process significantly simpler. However, simplification of working processes is not the only purpose of creating such an approach. It will also be possible to highly increase the precision and effectiveness of pharmaceutical treatment to ensure hastier recovery. Certain types of diseases that currently demonstrate resilience towards pharmaceutical treatment will also be studied in-depth which will allow both nurses and health care researchers to develop innovative approaches to treating them. Additionally, it will be possible for health care researchers to find new ways of implementing pharmaceutical treatment that was not available before. Therefore, applying an innovative drug safety approach might significantly influence advanced practice nurses’ working process and environment making it much more effective.
