Social groups are made up of two or more individuals who interact with one another and share a sense of togetherness and identity. They are critical in the development of personality and in building a sense of identity (Berger & Luckmann, 1966). Primary groups are tiny and marked by long-lasting, close-knit interactions. Secondary groupings include impersonal, transient, and purpose-driven connections. This essay addresses social groups, specifically family groups and project groups, and then discusses my ideal employment.
The first group that I choose is my family, as there we share love and support. A primary group is usually the group with whom a person exchanges implicit items like care, love, and support. My role in the family is to support each member and provide love and care for them as much as I can. It seems that the family has a democratic type of leadership as we make crucial decisions together and share our thoughts on the issues that we face. A secondary group that I have chosen is my project group at my college, as the group is goal-oriented. We have a clear goal: to do the work successfully and get higher grades. This type of group is usually made as a result of collective interest (Shamionov, 2018). My role is to provide relevant information regarding the topic and solve some issues that appear during the project. The project group has an authoritarian type of leadership, as one leader assigns tasks and controls the process. The leader usually dictates what to do and how for the rest of the group.
My ideal work would be working in a friendly environment where decisions are made collaboratively. I want to maintain contact with each member of the workplace and discuss the issues with them the processes as such a democratic leadership type is the best for me. The ideal status would be the project manager or assistant that helps others with their assigned tasks and monitors the project situation. I also want to work in a utilitarian workplace where employees get rewards and benefits for their hard work. Such a system would motivate me to perform better, and my peers would do the same. It seems that Google company is my reference group as the organization has everything that would make my work experience interesting. I value that people here address all problems together and collectively decide what to do with the projects. In addition, I like the idea that the leadership of the company can hear every employee and is open to communication. Therefore, I think Google is a good company to work with and I want to work in such a business entity.
To conclude, I do not change my career goals as I always want to work with people and solve problems associated with different projects. During this assignment, I have learned that my social interactions do matter when constructing my personality, as with them, I share emotions and career goals. In addition, I have learned more about Marx and his ideas, and I have never realized that he was right about the claim that what we do defines who we are eventually (Marx & Engels, 1998). It is crucial for me that communication with someone and share my ideas, so a job related to people and social interactions is important for my personality.
