Nowadays, almost all people, especially the representatives of young generations, consider their smartphones and laptops to be an integral and rather significant part of their life. Having an account in social networks provides individuals with numerous opportunities. Nevertheless, even though some may refuse to believe in this, social media can actually be beneficial as it is a perfect way for persons of all ages to share knowledge, be entertained, and communicate with people with similar interests.
To begin with, social media is a platform that contains an infinite amount of information on different topics. People share their experiences for free and voluntarily so that others can avoid their mistakes or quickly find a solution to a problem (“Why use social media?” n.d.). In social networks, one can find an understandable answer to a question when its search in academic articles may sometimes be unsuccessful. Finally, social media provides an opportunity to directly consult with an expert, colleague, or classmate about an issue of interest (“Why use social media?” n.d.). Second of all, when one gets bored but does not want to go outside, they can use social media to get entertained. For example, there are various interesting videos that people would not probably watch on purpose but can do that out of boredom. Further, posting funny pictures and scrolling through Instagram is also a great way to entertain oneself and learn about one’s friends’ events.
Finally, this leads to another opportunity provided by social media – communication. When a person needs to talk to their parents who live far away, it is only required to take their smartphone and text them in any social network (“Why use social media?” n.d.). People from all over the world are united by Instagram, WhatsApp, and other platforms that provide a unique chance for several persons to be there for each other even if there are thousands of kilometers between them.
To draw a conclusion, one may say that, even though some parents consider social media a severe problem, such platforms are actually beneficial for them. People no longer need to spend hours looking for information in huge books, save money for entertainment, or wait for the opportunity to see a friend to share their news. Social media empowers persons to do all these things much faster, and it would be unwise to miss such an opportunity.
