South Korean Community and Its Characteristics

South Korean community

South Korean community is considered to be the unity I would like to analyze because I dedicated a considerable part of my life living there. The investigation of the community is to be disclosed through its influence on the formation of human personality to understand, what print the living environment left on you. The culture of South Korea appeared to be a considerable element of information of my mental and moral characteristics through its influential power.

Personal experience

South Korean community is considered to be a part of my individuality; living in Korea for the greatest part of my life, it is necessary to stress that this time limit appeared to be enough to change my world look. The analysis of the native community can be stressed through the work Socialization and Personality Development by Mead, who managed to highlight the importance of people for shaping their communities. It is necessary to underline the fact that culture is the basic element in the formation of people’s stereotypical behaviors. The same can be demonstrated through the disclosure of the South Korean community I lived in; it is important to dive into the depth of its history to understand some cultural habits and stereotypes.

History of community

Historical overview of my community shows, that the South Korean Community is considered to be a formal union through its separate developed legal system, as well as political and economical ones. Nevertheless, I am deeply interested in a detailed description of its people and culture. By Mead, human behavior is formed through cultural interference; this aspect allowed the anthropologist to understand humanity. Her work demonstrates the comparative analysis of various communities, such as Samoan and Polynesian, through which the author reflected gender characteristics perception and mental features formation. For example, she underlined how the culture can turn people into aggressive social groups, or making them domineering. I would like to compare these characteristics with people of the South Korean Community; it is necessary to underline the idea that Koreans, belonging to this very group, can be outlined among other communities through their politeness and friendliness. To show the contrast in nation’s characteristics, I would like to compare these people with Americans. South Koreans and Americans are considered to be neighbors; nevertheless, cultural differences are considerable. For example, it should be noted that South Koreans stick to socially acceptable norms in addressing other people, such as Doctor Park or President Kim. My native community can be characterized by collectivism or communitarianism; it means that the community stands before individuals while speaking of American individualism, the situation is just the opposite.

Culture basis

The community-oriented culture promoted in the South Korean Community is predominantly based on the ethical norms of Confucianism. People have a considerable misunderstanding of American cultural individualism describing it as for hidden egoism or unhealthy egotism. I would like to stress the idea, that everything, differing from others, is considered to be perceived as wrong in the South Korean community. The thing is that culture is concentrated on valuing conformity and uniformity; people focus their mentality on equal quality promotion, rather than equality. It is necessary to underline the fact that people of the South Korean community, as well as other Koreans, value their racial homogeneity on a high level, which considerably differs them from Americans. National unity is expressed in every aspect of the Community’s activities; it means that everything is decided unanimously and you cannot escape the event being important for the majority of the population.

Despite the friendliness and unity of the community, the people of South Korea cannot be characterized as venturing and innovative; economical and industrial history research of the state demonstrated the fact that there are no entrepreneurial ventures produced or some innovative devices created by the nation. The strong communitarianism characteristics dissolved such social criteria as flexibility, proactivity, and adaptability, which are considered to be important in the modern changing environment. By the cultural spirit of the South Korean community, three basic elements are leading to success; hometown, blood, and school. Taking into account this position, impossible is nothing for people belonging to this community.

Geographic characteristics

Speaking of geographic characteristics of the community place, it is necessary to stress that South Korea is a very small country having several regional dialects. Racial and cultural homogeneity characterizing the country interacts with persistent stereotypes, nepotism, favoritism, and regional prejudices. It is necessary to underline the fact that the country has a wide range of mass entertainment for the youth: parties, factions, organizations, and circles. My experience proved that the people of the South Korean Community can be considered as the most active in their participation in various alumni activities. Energetic character and integrity within the community are considered to be the key factor in building strong social groups with a common universal culture based on ethical norms and principles of mutual equality. The qualities and cultural characteristics analyzed above make the community differ not only from Americans but from all other national unities.
