Sustainable Development: The Climate Change Issues

The vast majority of international organizations of the UN have included in their activities a significant environmental component focused on the transition to sustainable development. One of the topics remains climate change; the goal is to take urgent action to combat its effects (United Nations). Greenhouse gas emissions associated with human activities have reached historic highs. Climate change, spurred by economic and population growth, has affected humans and natural systems in every country on every continent. As climate change has a significant impact on economic development, natural resources, and poverty alleviation, overcoming this problem has become an integral part of achieving sustainable development.

The state is challenging climate change issues. According to Governor Phil Murphy, it brings drawbacks to the coastline (Official Site of the State of New Jersey). Moreover, the asthma rates increase among the most vulnerable social groups due to the fossil fuel industry. Because of these reasons, the authorities implemented the Energy Master Plan, which will diminish New Jersey’s needs for fossil fuels, decrease greenhouse gas emissions, and consequently, it will improve the air quality and affect the citizens’ well-being (Official Site of the State of New Jersey). The Energy Master Plan presents several central strategies. The first step is to reduce energy consumption by developing the field of electric transport. One of the directions is to encourage developing the renewable energy sector. The plan focuses on reducing the usage of fossil fuels by decarbonization and electrification buildings. The possible achievement is to shift the state’s energy consumption to 100% clean energy by 2050 (Official Site of the State of New Jersey). Enterprises solve the problem of climate change by introducing innovations and making long-term investments in energy efficiency and low-carbon development.

The most realistic prospects for avoiding global warming appear during large-scale institutional and technological changes. The development of solutions to the problem of climate change will avoid destabilizing the achievements of recent decades as a result of this phenomenon. Besides, it will provide countries with the possibility of a future transition to a low-carbon economy.
