The tragedy that occurred on June 18, 2007, in Charleston, South Carolina, claimed the lives of nine brave firefighters of the local fire brigade and changed the life of the city in many ways (“Charleston 9” 00:03:42-00:03:50). That day, the brigade came to a call at the Charleston Super Sofa, but no one imagined that that fire would cost the lives of nine brave people. No special measures were taken, and the specialists acted, as usual, to stop the fire and prevent its spread to neighboring territories. However, eyewitnesses state that no one could have imagined that nine people would die in that fire (“Charleston 9” 00:04:17-00:04:20). On that day, a full team was ready to extinguish the fire, which was difficult to eliminate because the place favored the rapid spread of fire. Nevertheless, the action took place in the city, and no additional difficulties complicated the process of work. Therefore no one could predict the tragedy and anticipate the terrible outcome.
During the time that has passed since the tragic fire, much has changed in the fire section of Charleston, except its name. In addition to such things as uniforms, vehicles, and other equipment, the team management has also been changed. Under the leadership of the new chief, who was appointed from another city, the fire department of Charleston expanded its capabilities significantly. Respect from residents has increased, as many still remember the feat of nine people, and the plaque confirms this. At the same time, firefighters have a more advanced technical base and can count on additional equipment if necessary. All this says that people remember the tragedy and are ready to do everything possible so that it does not happen again.
