The selected topic is the impact of genes on behavior. This topic is interesting due to the numerous debates on whether there is a correlation between genes and personality or behavior. Critically, there are studies that claim that twins often have the same behaviors. Considering this, therefore, one can argue that behavior can be positively linked to genetic history. The research question that has been developed for the topic is “is there a correlation between genetic history and personality or behavior pattern?”
The selected source, “What Behaviors Do We Inherit Via Genes?” by Nigel Barber, presents various arguments on the same topic. The theme of the article is how genes affect intelligence and crime tendencies among individuals. Debatably, the literature does not support fallacies. Despite this, the author describes some of the debates and arguments that have arisen over the years, some of which can be considered fallacies. Additionally, the author used one type of rhetoric to expose his points. The said type is logos, which uses logic to make arguments. For instance, Barber supports his arguments with various scientific studies making the source reliable. One of the critical messages from the source is that there is currently very little evidence supporting the fact that behavior can be tied to the gene pool.
The source answers the research question in that it proves that there is no known correlation between genetic pool and behavior pattern. This can be extended further using a real example where a pair of twins performed exactly the same in school whereas another pair performed completely differently with one twin getting better grades than the other. It can be suggested that more research is needed in order to present reliable conclusions on the topic.
