The Importance of Persia on the World Stage

Persia is one of the oldest states and empires, now called Iran. In the best “heyday period,” the Persian Empire became one of the most significant states in history. From its origin to the conquest by Alexander the Great, Persia occupied a dominant position in the ancient world for two and a half centuries. Persia was one of the dominant states, the importance of which can hardly be overestimated.

There are many factors due to which Persia was able to gain unprecedented greatness and concomitant success. Firstly, the period of Cyrus’ reign is one of the most significant for the development of the empire. Besides, powerful states such as Babylonia, Lydia, and Media fell under the leadership of Cyrus (Nijssen). Due to such military campaigns, Persia expanded its borders and strengthened them (Nijssen). Subsequently, Darius was able to increase the conquests of his ancestors, enhancing the Persian state, and government (Rattini). In addition, Persia was one of the most non-conflict states in which there were practically no uprisings. Cyrus was distinguished by showing compassion to the conquered regions and their inhabitants (National Geographic Society). Thanks to such a tolerance policy, kings and satraps have preserved their inner peacemaking spirit and unity of spirit.

Moreover, the Persians were the only people who could establish regular routes between several continents at once and develop a postal service (History.com Editors). They managed to build many paths, “cutting a window” to other states (History.com Editors). Accordingly, through establishing transport routes and coordination, the Persian Empire was able to “take control” of most of the neighboring regions. Additionally, the ancient Persians were known for their highly developed culture, creativity, and art. The ancient Persians created many other inventions, such as a mill and a water irrigation system, a coinage system, even their alphabet, and much more (Mark). The Persians sewed carpets and made unique metal products, precious jewelry, and artifacts. They were able to form their style, which could become a source of external influence.

In conclusion, the importance, significance, and features of the Persian Empire are from the point of view of an established internal policy and external influence on other states. Persians are pioneers and innovators; they are talented, intelligent, calculating, and astute personalities. Persia was ruled by brilliant and, at the same time, brave rulers who were not afraid of changes and force majeure. Thanks to them, the state has become a role model for other countries and a “threat” to potential competitors.
