Debate Background
At the moment, there are a large number of different trends in the field of doing business. Each is particularly interesting to society and is subject to many discussions. One of these topics is using artificial intelligence in conducting business activities. On the one hand, many people support this trend, justifying it by improving and facilitating many processes. However, there is an opinion that they can harm companies’ human resources. Studying such a business trend as artificial intelligence contributes to expanding knowledge about the possibilities of using this technology for business organizations.
The information collection for this report took place using Google Hangout as a conversation board. This provided an opportunity to receive the most comprehensive and authentic responses from the participating respondents. Each participating individual, Sam and Tom, was asked about their opinion on using artificial intelligence in business. Each of them provided a unique insight regarding this trend.
Viewpoint One: Negative Impact of Artificial Intelligence
Hence, Tom immediately noticed that this technology could negatively affect the company’s employees. This is because this innovation will perform human activity, which can be replaced by a machine, thereby leading to the dismissal of employees.
I agree with this point of view to some extent and support it. Many sources say that using artificial intelligence can replace simple human functions in the workplace. For example, research stated that “at the macro level, it appears capable of replacing humans by undertaking intelligent tasks that were once limited to the human mind” (Hassani et al., 2020, p. 143). On the other hand, it is also noted that this technological innovation has “not significantly reduced the cost of labor, nor has it significantly added value” (Hassaniet al., 2020, p. 154). Thus, I cannot fully agree with the opinion provided by Tom, but I understand where this kind of point of view comes from.
Viewpoint Two: Benefits of AI
Sam provided the opposite current of view, which supports using artificial intelligence in business. The most important advantage of this technology is the opportunity to work better and more efficiently with big data. This aspect implies their collection, processing, and interpretation, which will improve the quality of such processes as decision-making and strategic analysis. Moreover, artificial intelligence can be used to improve the activities of companies in areas such as customer service. This is because customers play one of the decisive roles in business activities; thus, they require special attention.
I agree with Sam that artificial intelligence can have many advantages for businesses and their strategic development. To a greater extent, this assistance facilitates working with big data, which can require a lot of effort and time. To limit the problem of replacing people in the workplace with technology, it is possible to develop strategies to replace simpler processes so that individuals occupy more demanding positions. Therefore, companies can gain the most significant advantage without losing human resources. Despite the different points of view on the topic under discussion, several solutions benefitted from the business trend the most.
