Water Management and Ecology Issues

On the whole, water management is one of the job skills that are of great importance to many organizations and institutions that can be both public and private. It should be noted that this area incorporates the elements of different disciplines; for example, one can speak about hydrology, geology, planning or law.

Currently, the sustainability of many communities strongly depends on the efficient use of water. Additionally, one should understand the geological and chemical processes, which involve water. Thus, it is critical to understand various implications of water management in the modern world. These are the questions that should be discussed in greater detail.

Overall, there are several reasons why this area becomes more and more significant. First, one should mention that approximately 30 percent of Earth’s surface has either semi-arid or arid climates (Lutgens and Tarbuck 137). Moreover, the population of the world continuously increases; therefore, the availability of water is a grave concern for many communities that are affected by the shortages of water supplies (Ciment and Ness 17). This is one of the issues that should not be disregarded. Therefore, it is critical to design methods of providing water resources to the population.

Much attention should be paid to the development of drainage systems that are critical for the sustainability of different communities. It is also critical to remember that the lack of water resources can lead to the depletion of soil (Lutgens and Tarbuck 139). In turn, this process can eventually undermine the agricultural development of many communities. Therefore, efficient water management is critical for economic sustainability of different countries or regions. This is one of the aspects that can be distinguished.

Additionally, one should keep in mind that there are many processes, which have intensified due to human activities. For example, one can speak about glacial erosion and melting of icebergs (Lutgens and Tarbuck 119). To some degree, this trend can significantly shape the landscape in many regions. Therefore, it is critical to understand the nature of these processes and their long-term implications.

As a rule, this trend attracts close attention of many environmental agencies that strive to minimize the impact of human activities on nature. Moreover, these organizations need to understand environmental risks to which people can be exposed. In turn, water management is one of the areas that these agencies usually focus on. This is one of the points that can be made.

Moreover, one should remember that water management is closely related to the development of infrastructural projects. People need to understand how various processes involving water can influence the life of communities in the future. Additionally, this information affects the decisions of planners who need to determine whether their actions can affect the environment in the long term. This is one of the details that can be distinguished.

On the whole, this discussion indicates that water management is a skill area that will play an important role in the modern society. To some degree, this issue can be explained by the scarcity of water resources. Apart from that, water management is important to urban planners and agencies that want to protect environment. It is quite likely that in the future, the role of water management will increase, because the availability of water resources will attract even more attention. These are the main issues can be singled out.
