What Is More Important – Love or Justice?

Love and justice are the two concepts that form the basis of ethical and moral principles. These two principles cannot exist without each other, and without each it is impossible to imagine the natural tendency of the human soul, character, and nature. However, the question of the importance of the above elements occupies the minds of many thinkers and philosophers within both the ancient and modern world.

In my opinion, love is the most essential component of “peoples’ universe,” unlike justice for several reasons. Primarily, love is a high feeling that has become much more difficult to ignite and preserve when there is so much evil and injustice around. Based on various opinions and judgments, love is a part of human nature, a need, a necessity, or a manifestation of higher spiritual forces. It is so great and boundless that it extends to everyone. While justice is only one of the constituent facets of love, one is impossible without the other element.

However, justice and love are simultaneously directed to kindness and man, but in different ways. As a rule, in justice, people are always talking about the good that must be shared between individuals in one way or another. On the other hand, love also has a social character, but it concerns a given element and a given person. In fact, for justice, a good is primarily an object shared between people, whereas in love, this concept disappears. Accordingly, love is a genuine happiness, without divisions and restrictions, representing the greatest joy for a person.

In brief, love is the only force that allows one to get as close to people as possible, delve into their inner world, and sometimes identify with their soul. Hence, justice maintains a distance with another person, sharing some benefits, and in love, people do not make calculations but wish as much good as possible to the one they admire. This feeling is above the law, above truth, and justice. For love lies at the foundation of mercy and forgiveness, and these virtues are based on it. Therefore, justice without love turns into cruelty, mercy into condemnation, and humility without love turns into hypocrisy.
