Works of Artists in the Style of Impressionism

The artists who utilized the impressionist style intended to make their work a captivating sketch of real life. In the Claude Monet painting in his Studio Boat by Édouard Manet, one of the impressionist features is the use of different shades of lighting. The painting is colorful and adopts brush strokes to blend different colors including green, blue, white, black-brown and not just grey, white, and black, as was the case before impressionism. The painting technique used by this artist is called Alla Prima. Manet paints with multiple colors to give the actual sensation of natural light (Kleiner, 2015). In this artwork, there are several social issues depicted, including friendship, couples working on art together, and freedom from subjective norms.

In The Tub by Edgar Degas, several formal qualities are explored. Curved lines were used for the two kettles, the tub, and the back of the woman. Diagonal lines were utilized in painting the hand that the woman is holding her hair to create depth. In addition, the utilization of different colors to create natural lighting is a formal quality evident in the painting. The combination of curved, linear, and diagonal lines makes the woman, the tub, and the kettle look three-dimensional. The painting has shared edges and combines different colors that give the sensation of natural lighting, which is perplexing to the viewer. The modernist interest that the artist was exploring in this image is nudity and erotism since the woman is naked.

The primary distinction between all the impressionist artists and their styles and Gauguin is that the latter refuted subjectivity, positivity, and greed as the main way of understanding society, unlike the former. Note, Gauguin abandoned impressionists who included artists such as Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir, and Edgar Degas among others. In his paintings, Gauguin emphasized major firm and form lines when painting, which were upright to define the contour and shape. The meaning is that the borders of his painting were bold and not just sketches. The primary reason for Gauguin moving to Pont-Aven. In the Vision after the Sermon, Gauguin fails to use natural color, as is the case with impressionists artists such as Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir, and Edgar Degas among others. The painting the horizon perspective, shade, and light, a typical style for realists and impressionist artists.
