A theme of abortion is discussed in a variety of sources daily. People are eager to share their positions, attitudes, and ideas on how to treat abortion, how to overcome the outcomes of abortion, and how to accept abortion considering different circumstances. The New York Times is one of the newspapers that offer interesting articles about abortion using the latest news and achievements. Three articles will be discussed to understand whether it is possible to create one general attitude to the idea of abortion and its effects on human life.
The question of abortion and its accessibility to the American women are discussed in Eckholm’s article Texas Abortion Clinic Rules Tested in Appeals Court in a very good way. First, the article proves that even if the issue of abortion touches upon one particular state, there are many groups of people, who suffer from the inability to consider a particular regulation. For example, the article informs that the case that establishes stringent abortion clinic rules deprives all Hispanic women and the women with low-income of a chance to have appropriate services by their medical needs (Eckholm, 2015). The evaluation of the case helps to comprehend that abortion is not only a personal problem that should be solved. It is a combination of rules and regulations that cannot be ignored and have to be discussed on an appropriate level.
“The Abortion Stereotype” by Khan is another piece of work that helps to understand how two different genders regard abortion and which reasons they are ready to offer. The author states that men with their liberal views have nothing against abortion and the way it influences the relations between genders. Women, in their turn, rely on their religious, political, and ethical interests to prove that abortion should not be available for everyone. There are situations when abortion should be identified as wrong, unnecessary, or even illegal. The article teaches that people live in a world “with a surfeit of information… services” (Khan, 2015, para.15), and women’s reproductive rights should be thoroughly evaluated.
Finally, the article by Dorothy Samuels, Tim Ryan’s Switch on Abortion Rights, turns out to be a good example of how the opinion of a person may be changed, taking into consideration the current situation and several real-life cases. Recently, Tim Ryan, the representative of the Democratic Party, explained his decision to support women with their decision to use abortion as one of the possible means to solve their problems. He underlined that it was high time, “we must trust women and families – not politicians – to make the best decisions for their lives” (Samuels, 2015, para. 3). Of course, there should be certain measurements according to which abortion may or may not be permitted; still, women should take independent solutions in their lives.
These three articles help to realize that abortion is a public issue that can never be neglected. It is hard to take one position and prove its correctness. It is not enough to have several proofs for or against abortion. The articles show that abortion can never be understood to its full extent, and the only thing people may learn from them is to use personal reasons and explanations about abortion and its role in life and consider only certain circumstances to prove or disprove the urgency of abortion as a means to change a situation for better.
