Introduction

Artificial Intelligence is simply the ability of a machine or computer program to reason, learn and perform tasks which resemble of a human being. The AI technology can convey human intelligence to a certain level through its problem-solving techniques and schemes performances almost the same as humans in the music industry. This technology has been at the forefront in the composition, creation, and production of songs that have revolutionized the industry over the last few decades. The industry has changed to another form where pieces can be composed and edited with the help of machines. This transformation has reduced the physical involvement of musicians in music composition, with current trends indicating further improvements that might eliminate musicians.

A Brief History of Artificial Intelligence in Music Creation

The phrase “Artificial Intelligence” was first termed in 1957 at the Dartmouth College Conference in the USA by senior scientists. In 1951, Alan Turing created the first computer-generated music of machine-generated melodies and musical notes. Later in 1957, mathematicians at the University of Illinois programmed a computer machine that generated compositional materials and created musical works written by “Illiac Suite for String Quarter.”

Russian researcher Zaripov used the URAL-1 computer to publish a paper on composing music using algorithms in 1960 (Freeman np.). Half a decade later, an inventor from America programmed a computer that could recognize patterns in a piano. The computer used these patterns to create melodies. Computer machines in the music industry advanced rapidly with improvements made to existing devices and new inventions made. Today, computers have improved, and AI has resulted in computers creating music with changing weather and a positioned sun.

AI in Music Creation and Production

Artificial Intelligence has therefore made it easy for musicians to produce their songs of all genres. From generating music autonomously to creating soundtracks for music videos, AI has achieved the milestone of purely composing songs solely. Emotional soundtracks for music are tools in AI that invoke the listener’s emotions. The emotions are achieved through the generated algorithms capable of aiding the user in setting the mood of the music (Freeman np.). The spirit can instill varying feelings in viewers depending on how the computer is programmed, just like humans do while performing it. With zero knowledge in music, the AI programs have significantly changed generations of songs by adopting a framework of set codes that run it.

Music is either instrumental or vocal sounds, or even both to express an emotion or produce harmony. AI plays a critical role in substituting humans to make these sounds with almost similar characteristics. The emergence of robotic technology has led to an influx of music production as they are fast and precise compared to human beings. Robot creates more sophisticated AI programs with efficient music tools that can perform tasks simultaneously. These tools help musicians extend their skills and develop new approaches in music production. The robots not only help musicians create their content but also can play the music.

AI in Top-Selling Music

With advanced algorithms and data storage, AI will speed the creation and production of music content. Speedy production will create a significant market ground since the music listeners will have various songs to choose from the album. Top-selling music producers will cut time and expenses in reproducing their work since AI will create music content of similar quality. AI also suggests music to listeners based on their playlist.

This technological revolution will increase the number of albums sold by top-selling songs on the billboards as more listeners will listen to different songs on the same album. Based on songs topping the list of most listened or watched, the AI can help predict pieces that are likely to be more popular to listeners, thus improving the quality of songs. Artificial Intelligence programs can filter suggestions of fan base and use this information to create advertisements for the suggested music (Sturm et al. 45). More people will be reached, and this will increase the number of songs sold in the future.

Artists are entirely dependent on AI in market penetration, and in the future, the technology will help resolve problems encountered by these artists to sell their music content. Integrated tools in AI will see it take the role of producing better music than humans do. These tools will also lead to the programs surpassing humans in the production of top-selling music. The progressive nature of AI will lead to the total replacement of musicians. Fast-changing AI technology will replace more than 80 million music producers and artists (Sturm et al. 45). In the future, humans will be listening to music created by AI and watching robots perform songs. Humans working alongside AI will be an impossibility since human roles will be deemed valueless.

Conclusion

The use of Artificial Intelligence is rapidly expanding, with several innovative companies adopting it to create music. The trends show AI has and will still fully transform the music industry regardless of how long it takes. The transformation process will give AI humanity and personality characteristics, and by so, humans will have no role in the music industry. Autonomous music production is the future of the music industry which should be adopted by technical institutions offering music training.
